Dan Harmon, the creator of the TV show Community has a podcast called Harmontown. They use music for intros to segments and for a backing tracks to tongue in cheek badly improvised raps.

here's a link to last weeks show ( kinda NSFW audio). The request for music is at 00:1:35 - right after the intro.

This is pretty cool. I like community, but not enough to know who it's creator is. I'm also into a variety of podcasts. The one podcast I listened to was clever and goofy just like I'd imagine a raw behind the scenes writing session would be for community. I wouldn't mind donating music to something I believe in like this.
Thx, Pegor.

Hmm. And employers are looking for "interns" who will work for free so they can add the experience to their resume.
I don't want to be negative, but until the new, totally socialist economy gets here and we all just do stuff for each other because it's fun, it strikes me that professional musicians are down one less job for every unlicensed, unsigned track Harmontown uses.
I happen to know a guy who creates "segue" music (jazzhouseblues.com), but he has rent to pay for his studio, upkeep on the equipment, musicians to hire, and I suppose food to put on the table (although I think he's done all right by other means and is now into hobbyist retirement). While it may be cool that unknowns can get their tracks on the virtual air, I would have thought that anybody involved in a major hit TV show would be able to cough up a few bucks for their services.
But I didn't follow the links, so maybe I misunderstand.

Yeah, I'm all for getting paid and all that (I mean, you should have heard me rant against Amanda Palmer when she solicited musicians for her tour and didn't offer to pay them), but it's not like Harmon charges money to download the podcast. If my song is selected, I wouldn't have to perform it live, and I publish my mp3s on my website for free anyway. And I happen to be a big fan of Harmon's work. So, I submitted my song "Lessons Are Repeated." I don't have any qualms about it. Your mileage may vary.
