SOUNDTRACK - debut album by me

Post by thehipcola »

Hey everyone,

I've been working away on finishing my debut album release, entitled SOUNDTRACK. I've got a micro-site up for it, http://www.sound-track.ca , if'n yer innerested.

One track is up, with more music, imagery and video to follow as the release date gets closer.

Hope this finds everyone sipping a cool evening drink of their choice. Unless it's morning where you are...in which case a cool evening drink cleverly disguised as a morning drink would be easier to explain...

If you want that link to work, you might want to get rid of the comma after the link!

So it's actually at This location?

Damn, this is f**king killer! The intro should have been panned a bit more to the other side, but I totally got what you were going for when the voice came in. Intros without balance make people adjust knobs, then when the good stuffz hitz, their knobs are all crazalistic.
I'm linking Phil Redmon to this, he'll love it.
More!

I second roymond's "awesome". Also, I hope you don't lose the panning: it makes me uneasy, and I like that.

The panning thing makes me always wonder, "how is the listener listening to this music". I was listening on a very killer set of headphones, but maybe in my car, I would feel different.
Either or, awesome.

whoa, hey, thanks alot guys. Much appreciated words of encouragement. MUCH much. :)

as for the panning....i have to admit, I'm with Puce.... It's intentionally done that way. In my strange world, th'aint much that needs to be up the middle...and if I can possibly get away with sliding it over to the side or something, that's usually where stuff goes. Big fan of the stereo field, myself. But you raise an interesting point, BLT...consideration of the listening environment, or listener..really, in how we mix and ultimately present our work. Which is a horse I've beat to death...(considering that kind of stuff), but ultimately decided to go with my gut instincts on production decisions like that, which are totally informed by a specific aesthetic I've tried to nail down. But facing endless compromises over details like that actually served to convince me that I ought to "buck up" as it were, and just do it the way I think it ought to be done, knowing that another project might dictate a completely different execution, mix-wise.

Whether I was wrong or not remains to be seen.... (or, heard....) ;)

Thanks again all!

Thanks for checking it out, Billy! Hallowe'en is the album drop date, release party and hopefully a killer live show that'll beg more questions than answer....

Quick update - the Oct31 release date has been pushed back. I've decided to turn this into a multimedia affair, which was the original (abandoned) idea. I didn't think it was at all feasible to think I could shoot and assemble something approaching what I originally had seen in the mind's eye, but I've sinced changed my tune, started shooting some test footage and stills, and have been encouraged by the results.

Guess I figure since it's my first album, I might as well do it whole hog. Or whatever.

Thanks and apologies to anyone who may have been even casually looking forward to this...it is coming! Probably early 08. Music is done....just the vids left....

Cheers!
