Inconsistent vote counts

I'm noticing a pattern in the archive where the sum of the votes is not equal to the "total votes" tally. Usually by one.

Here are just a few:
If I Had One - sum: 162, "total": 163
Disco Tony 87, 88
Hello My Old Heart 189, 191
Ease Your Storm 155, 156
Front and Center 173, 176
Double Take 263, 264
Let's Get Bloody 222, 223
Keep All Your Promises 106, 113
Cost Of Living 242, 245

What happens surprisingly often is someone will vote on the previous fight, because they still have the old page cached or they vote as the results are being posted or whatever, and so the next fight gets those votes but they get recorded for artists who aren't actually in the fight. The vote-recording script is incredibly simplistic.

What the fuck. So, I presume I should just ignore the phantom votes in my data scraping?

I think Mr Glutton needs a trip to Room 101. He seems to doubt that 2+2=5.

Song Fight is just such a magical special place that defies logic and math. 8-)

Well as long as I'm here, maybe someone can answer why we have a fight from "1987"? http://www.songfight.org/songpage.php?key=its_charging

That was a joke fight. The title never actually appeared on the site, it just showed up in the archives one day. All of the entries were done by... I think it was drew. Pretty sure the absurd date is part of the joke.

You'll run into similar trouble when you log "The Proposal," because the dates listed for that fight are, the start of John and Dorie's relationship and the date of the actual proposal.

MG, I sent you a PM. I can probably answer questions about the archive data for you and more.
