BSS entries in "Starting a Witch Hunt"

Hi. Not to stir up too much more trouble, but we were wondering if it'd be possible to have the two BSS "Staring A Witch Hunt" entries attributed to just "Berkeley Social Scene" instead of "Berkeley Social Scene 1"/"Berkeley Social Scene 2"? This would be similar to how the three fluffy porcupine entries for "So Aggravating" are all attributed to just "fluffy porcupine".

That would screw with the way that votes work. I'm sure Spud can change it when it's in the archive though (which is what he did for 'so aggravating' too).

I'm on to your shenanigans, Mr. :D

Is it possible to consolidate those two entries both under just "Berkeley Social Scene" please? :)

Man, do you want the archive data to be unchanging or not?

I've fixed it in the data.

Thanks fluffy, that's great.

Also, ha ha, "unchanging", you're funny. I think "unchanging" is kind of out the window considering how the archive data is managed. I still need to clean up the Christopher David entry for "Dodged a Bullet" too. I might groan when stuff like that happens but ultimately I recognize that it's pretty much "anything goes" with the archive data.

With this request I'm just interested in making sure the two songs are credited to BSS. I guess maybe partly I'd like some consistency, but I know that's a silly thing to expect. Just because there is a precedent for somebody entering a fight multiple times (e.g. your 3 "So Aggravating" entries), doesn't mean I should expect the subsequent occurrences of the same situation to be handled the same way.

What we really need is a proper normalization schema which decouples fight, band, entry name, and individual entry. But it's hard enough getting entrants to even fill out "title" and "band name" right. Even with only a single title. So I mean, uh, good luck with maintaining any sort of data consistency EVER.

You know how managing software engineers is like herding cats? Musicians are like schizophrenic cats with ADD who are tripping on acid.

(Also, I forget whether it was you or Spud who asked for my three 'so aggravating' entries to be consolidated under the one band name, but personally I didn't want them to be consolidated! I liked the three entries being distinct. And I'm far from the first person to submit multiple songs for the same fight - I was just the first to enter them all under the same name. I certainly wasn't attempting to evoke some special privilege or whatever.)

I didn't request the consolidation of those entries. I didn't even know that you had three entries in that fight until I tried to make a unique key out of artist name + fight name in the Jukebox database and discovered that wouldn't work.

It would be great if users put in good data. People aren't going to change. though, so if anybody actually wants things to change then Song Fight! would have to change, and that's not necessarily something people really seem to want.

I am trying to roll with it because it is what it is. This request again was not about data consistency but just about how we wanted those songs under our regular band name, that's all. Thank you for making that happen, I do actually really appreciate that you took the time to do that.

It was probably Spud who decided to fix it on his own, then (or maybe it was in response to someone else's "let's normalize the database to make an API easier" push, like maybe Manhattan Glutton for his wiki or something). It was so long ago, who the hell knows anymore.

They also used to be listed as "fluffy porcupine 1" "fluffy porcupine 2" "fluffy porcupine 3." I think I'd even originally submitted them that way, for that matter.

Anyway, at least easy-to-fix things like this are easy to fix. I do wish we had a better way of dealing with archive data though.
