My song is missing from the fight

Post by Jefff »

I have the confirmation email from the Fightmaster, and I followed the standard instructions. I don't see a song by Add in the fight. Who do I re-send it to?

Doh, my bad Jefff. Your email did come in and had the proper attachment and everything. I will fix it.

The way I had been dealing with the mp3s originally was: log in to the ancient, super slow, and klunky fightmaster webmail, read each email one at a time, skip through the many spam and bounce emails, find the emails that are real submissions with mp3 attachments, save each mp3, copy/paste the band name, fix the mp3 filename issues some of which included people naming it right but just not making everything lowercase, etc.

That was actually one of the most time consuming manual parts of the update process. I am very lazy so I have been working on a script to automatically sign in to the mailbox, find messages with mp3 attachments, download the mp3s and the from/subject/sent/body of the emails, put everything in a folder, name everything in a way so that I can match the emails with their mp3s, and lowercase the filenames of all the mp3s automatically.

It seems like for some reason my script is skipping messages. I think this is the second time it's happened. I need to debug that and figure out what's going on...

As a side note, Jefff, do you really want to switch your band name to "Add" instead of "add"?

Also, your song is up now, as "Add". Let me know if you'd prefer "add" to match the bulk of your previous entries.

I see now what is wrong with my script. I was only looking for attachments with a mime type of audio/mpeg, but some like yours come in as audio/mp3. Oops! Should be fixed for next time.

You can't rely on the MIME type being correct. I'd also allow application/octet-stream just to be safe.

That's going to get me some false-positives. For example there is a spam in there now with a text file attached with mime type application/octet-stream. I have not yet gotten any examples where I'm missing someone's submission because it came in as application/octet-stream. When I do I will re-evaluate.
