"RIP" Deceased Musicians Announcements on Home Page

Postby Enter It In The Art Show » Thu Nov 16, 2017 2:03 pm

**Thank you to all sf moderators and all of the effort you put into making this site and forum run so smoothly.**

Small suggestion:

I think the list of announcements of deceased musicians is a good way to commemorate influential musicians that left the world recently. However, the phrase "The RIP keeps on RIPpin", and probably "RIP, RIP, RIP" are probably not the most savory ways to announce that a beloved or influential musician has passed away. I feel that perhaps those phrases, but most notably "Keeps on RIPpin", is fairly distasteful, and perhaps conveys a message of disrespect toward the deceased. I know that if I saw that wording as a child or family member or good friend or even fan of one of those individuals, I would be reasonably upset.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Again, I think the moderators have always done a great job keeping peace and being very reasonable in the 11 plus years I have been on songfight. Any consideration made towards changing the wording of the deceased musician announcements on the front page would be very much appreciated. Thank you again.

My apologies, I did not mean to be offensive or insensitive or to diminish the seriousness of the losses. I feel disheartened and confounded by the number of amazing artists that we've been losing lately and by the relentless nature of the passage of time and life that it makes evident. That plus all the other tragic events this year effecting so many people and the general state of affairs in the US political climate, things have been feeling bleak sometimes lately. Anyway, I will alter the wording.

Thank you, my friend. I really do appreciate you doing that, i definitely appreciate the space dedicated to commemorating those who have passed, as well. I agree, this world has always goes through times of turmoil and unrest, and music has always been a constant, a sort of savior to help us all cope with the challenges and unfairness and tumult of human existence. Thanks for helping keep songfight alive and running so we can enjoy our lives a little more with something we love doing! Appreciate it, man! Cheers.

I started to post David Cassidy and Charles Manson but then I felt like the whole news section was becoming a bit too morbid for me. So I've removed all the announcements about recently passed folks for now.

No offense, but why would you have wanted to wish Charles Manson peace to begin with?

No offense, but why would you assume I was going to say "RIP" for him...?

His passing is notable in pop and music culture. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But the fact that he didn't fit with all the other remembrances was what made me think the whole thing had run its course. Seems like a board thread would be a better place for that kind of thing. I would much rather that folks actively submitted their news about their music and other creative activity, to fill up that space.

You may have already heard this, but I have no news about my music.

I mean if it helps any I didn't end up dying two weeks ago (although I could have if I didn't get to the hospital on time).

There is a great 2 part mini series about the Easybeats just started on ABC.

A bit sad that both George and Malcolm Young both just missed it. Anyway - give it a watch if it gets to US
