Haterz

Post by lilmama »

I'm new to songfight but I love it! I'm not as musically knowledgable as some of you- but enjoy discussing new songs with friends- it's a great way to reach a wide variety of people and to expose them to other types of music. But something has bothered me for a few weeks now:

Did I misunderstand something? Is this some exclusive memebership- or can anyone be a member?

A member Monte Carlo forwarded the site to me, I'm so thankful. But why are you hatin' on them? they're the new crew on the block and they have made a few great songs- can you give them some credit?!

Last week they won on a "technicality"- this week a sarcastic remark questions their win again! Give me a break- I've been humming their tune for the last week! Monte Carlo has talent! I'm here to say they won because they had the better song!

Perhaps they will encourage you haterz out there to step up your game!

I can answer that. Anyone can participate, and anyone can be a "member". All you need is a sense of humor. Or humour, depending.

It is my job to write witty commentary for the front page. I thought the technicality thing was funny - it was related to the title, and had nothing to do with Monte Carlo's win. I would have made the same joke about anyone who might have won.

The seventeen thing was a fluke. Not really as funny, just interesting. Still, I can see you you might take it the wrong way. If they don't want me to make jokes about them, they should just stop winning and let me pick on someone else. :)

Voting

Post by HamNoBurger »

I'm still a newbie here on SongFight! (3 weeks or so) - But I learned very quickly that the votes here don't mean shit to me. Sure, I guess it's nice to see that someone voted for one of my tunes, but I found that I enjoy the critiques MUCH more than the actual voting. Of course it's great when someone gives a song of mine a good review. And when someone gives a negative review, he/she is usually kind enough to explain why the song wasn't good and what improvements could be made the next time around. And if you don't have a sense of humor around here, you won't last long at all. Suck it up, enjoy all the music available here, and try not to worry about the voting.

That's because you are a wise man and have already learned how to hate at the drop of a hat.

Don't worry lilmama!

If you stick around, you'll see that these folks are probably some of the most helpful, insightful and supportive artists you will ever meet. It's a truly rare community. I have been submitting songs for over three years, and am in awe of some of the talent and dedication that these musicians have... it's awesome.

Enjoy your new addiction....and all the amazing free music!!!

Seconding the friendliness and supportiveness.

However, also worth mentioning that "friend-flooding" -- aka sending out a link to SongFight! to your friends on a week that you have a song in, and when your friends know the band name you submitted under -- in order to get more votes is generally mocked, because (if you've been around long enough) for most people the votes are a fun conversation piece but really tertiary to getting good (positive/negative) feedback and meeting new musicians/hearing their stuff so that you can learn.

So yeah, you'll get teased, but there's no hatin'. I personally avoid telling my friends about my SongFight entries for that very reason. :)

I personally hate Monte Carlo, I think their music is crap! They've got 3 band members and 14 friends. Who is that singer anyway? He's such a total Zipline rip-off. Monte Carlo are a bunch of insecure wankers.

I can't keep up with you Frisbee, Glennny, Zipline, guys. Monte Carlo is one from your pack, right?
Their song was ok this week. I didn't vote for them, but they were still ok.

Monte Carlo is Martyr's other band. You know the sell out band. The friend flooding, amp using, patience trying, tedious swell of mediocre crap. I have nothing to do with Monte Carlo, except hating them that is. I have far too much integrity. I hope their 14 friends never vote for one of my projects, that would mean we really phoned it in.

It'd be different if say the members of the band did some reviews, or admitted their Friend Flooding ways.

I hate that I'm associated with them at all.

I don't know who lilmama is (who are you lilmama??) But she's got an awesome point - all this friend flood bashing just isn't deserved. One of our three members actually forgot to vote last week! People who heard the song liked it, and starting telling others about it -- something that hasn't happened with Zipline entries.

So this brings up a new fork in the thread: maybe someone is jealous of Monte Carlo. Maybe to the typical listener Monte Carlo rocks and Zipline sucks. The only thing good about Zipline are the vocals and bass, and if that loser who edits all their songs would pay attention to that, their Evil April entry would have done a ton better. What's more important -- that you splice in the best vocal take -- one that *makes sense as a verse*, or edit in the most self-indulgent guitar solo? It's all about the song, and the Monte Carlo guys know this. Zipline is just too wrapped up in the individual instrumentation and squeezing in another time signature to pay attention the the bigger picture.

Oh, I can't hold up such a front for long -- I love 'em both.

HATERZ ARE UGLY!
