theme is wide

Post by starfinger »

not to be a turd, but the 'songfight' theme is really wide.
i had to switch to the far-less-cool subSilver theme so that I don't have to scroll horizontally to read things.

It's the logo, not the theme.

The logo pushes the stuff in the upper right, so that people with names longer than, say "Blue" or "Spud" get the scroll screen action. (you know, up there where it says "Log out [ starfinger ]"

Don't use subsilver.

In Fact: The songfight theme should be copied over the SubSilver theme (but with the name subSilver intact) so that there is NO choice, and so that any future phpbb mods/hacks installed will be able to work with their default settings, as most of them are written to be installed on the SubSilver theme.

Tha way, everybody would be sure to see the same version of the board, and we could all be happy.

Can't they just keep SongFight named SongFight and delete subSilver altogether? And of course set SongFight to the default?

I made the current theme (but NOT that ginormous logo, which definitely needs to change) and that's what I did with my local install. Seemed to work fine.

Not sure what the problem is here... SongFight is the default theme, but if somebody hates it I'm not gonna force them to use it when there's an alternative.

I made the ginormous logo, because the regular songfight logo is too tall for my taste. It's really stupid that that top area would cause the whole page to be too wide. Aggravating.

Bortwein's working on something, I'm sure that will fix it all up.

JB - I am appeased.

Jeff - Yeah, but, see, if this theme was named "SubSilver", then any 3rd party modifications the FM's wanted to install later on (via Easymod) would be able to use the default installation, rather than having to edit lines of code. This would, in turn, lead to mods actually being installed (which is a good, and fun thing) rather than toyed with, frustrated by, and abandoned.

There are some cool simple mods out there, that get rid of GMT time, subtly prevent guest posting/reminders to log in, and of course, Spud's favorite, a mod that adds the Strikethrough text with a simple [s] and [/s].

Just a thought. Okay, just a lot of thoughts.

Okay, 2 more:

Garfunky, Why oh why do you use 800 by 600? It's the 90's man, get with the times!

and JB: forcing people to do stuff is cool & rewarding.

Heh, for me it's always the end of the '70s, and I'm just really advanced.

And thank you, gods of the board, for allowing this here crank to surf with a single scroll bar!

Here are 3 simple forum logos based on the SF! logo.

if you really wanted to be crafty you could make it an option to select which color you'd like the board to be... but that's more work than it might be worth. I know I'd make mine blue fight, but I know others would perfer red fight.
