How does one get in there?

We really need an instruction page for this. You need an IRC client of some kind, and then you point it to irc.chatjunkies.org, and the room is #songfight! I'm using the Chatzilla extension for firefox. mIRC is another good one.

Jan set up a little how-to at this url: http://jan-krueger.net/sf-irc

Basically: You're going to need a plug-in or an independent client for IRC. A lot of people use mIRC. I use X-Chat. There are also some flash- and java-based web clients, but they're not notorious for their reliability.

Once you're in there, connect to the server chatjunkies.org, port 6667. Once you're logged into Chatjunkies, input the following line into your chat window:
Once you're in the room, we can help you with the details.

If you need more detail than that, let me know.

There needs to be more than one fight a week.
Two perhaps? Three as in Squirrel Damage's glory days of yore?
I think I have heard the arguments against multiple fights before, but it can't be worse than listening to 30 songs and trying to make meaningful comments on them. Invariably, one of the titles just sounds so much better than the others.
More fights, please.

And if you are lucky you wil find ONE person to talk to. I go to the SF irc chat room once in a while. It's almost impossible to find anyone active there.

All depends on the time of day. There's usually some lively conversation going on from about 11am through 3pm my time, and (though a little less often in recent weeks) usually after about 10 or 11pm my time. Also, there's a lot of us idling at any given time, but if you wander in and start typing in random people's names, it'll ping our machines and we'll start chatting. We're well-programmed like that.
