I've been pissing people off lately. Hopefully I'm over it, and they're at peace with my former stressed self.

I have no idea if phppBB could do this, but....

Under our avatars there are those little links for e-mail, pm-ing, web, etc.....

A link to our archives page would be really cool. I realize that not everyone's user name indicates their artist name, so tehy would have to put it in their profile. But that's exactly why it would be a cool link to have.

Can't you just put it in your signature? Personally I prefer my sockpuppet.us archive to the Song Fight one anyway (since it has the remastered and plus+5 versions and remix sources and so on).

I created such a field in the user profile. You can put it there, and then at least people can go to you profile and click on it, if you don't want to clutter up your sig. Check out my profile to see it work, since I put ours in there. That's about all I can do for now, at least until I learn more about styles.

SPUD

Eek, Never mind, I don't like what it did to the page. It put it into the user info box on the left, which made it really wide, since it won't break a URL. I'm gonna see if I can find another way...

While we're nerding out about stupid things, any chance we could get the topic reply notification to come from bbadmin@songfight.net again instead of JB's gmail address? The former makes it easier to tell at a glance where the message is coming from, and anyway I'm sure JB doesn't want people replying to automated emails with stupidity.

Maybe we could do it with some kind of customer BBCode? Or we could remove the custom fields from the left so they only show up in the profile page... but I kinda like having them under my posts...

I love change but I hate the board default lay-outs? Glossy green is OK but the point size is too big for my liking - is there a way of selecting any other templates, beyond the 6 that are on the administration panel? I doubt it, and will have to deal, but yasus - the 'indie star' even has advertising of a sort on it, what with the Fifa '07 plug and all ...

Go find one you like and link to it.

Mark linked to one earlier, I plan to add it.

First three suggestions will get added! There are two coupons left! (Adding styles is not hard, but it is very very boring.)

How about this for a (partial) solution. A custom profile field for the name of your band? I know it's not perfect, because you might have more than one, and people still have to go find you in the archive, but it seems better than nothing...

SPUD

edit: OK I did it. Let me know what you think.

Hey, not bad, I like that. At a glance, I see that you play ehorn. I now put that on my brains back burning and when I need ehorn, I now know where to go.

No no, I remember you posting that a long time ago. I thought it was a burb and asked you to pass it my way next. You made some comment about hanging on to it tight being that it's your second one because the first one was stolen, or some shiz.
Then I saw a vid with you playing it. It sounds very unique in it's own interesting way, or maybe it's just the way you play it.

In FACT, if you have the time, I've been wanting to get back to my style of mixing a John Lennon dreamy flow with punk and a dash of rock. Maybe one of the new titles will inspire me, or the fact that I'm incorporating ehorn, lol. Let me know.

edit: Haha, dreamy is still censored.

Since the bandname field in the profile doesn't appear to turn into a link or anything, one could list multiple names there, comma separated or whatever... direct links might be nice, but just having the list of names is helpful...

so far, everything seems cool with the new boards. I'm a 'Glossy Blue' man. Looks fine.

...but when people put links in their post - it is the same colour as the other text and I don't know there is a link. Can I change that somehow?

I go away for like three years, and come back to find everything pretty much how I left it. Then I leave for like three effing weeks and everything's all different-like.

So. To weigh in. PHPBB3 is way better that 2 in terms of reliability, spambot security, and other such features that most users never notice until they break. And some of the cosmetic changes are better than others. I don't particularly like the avatars on the right instead of the left, but I think I'll learn to live with it if that never changes. The addition of new material to the mini-profile sidebar is terrific.

It's ludicrous, however, for the PHPBB format to reject the language in which the entire rest of the Web runs. Especially because BBCode isn't nearly as versatile, and sometimes it just doesn't work. Back on the old board, if I ever wanted to put more than one link in a single post, I had to use HTML, because the BBCode would just come out as BBCode.

I also can't stand this theme. It's all sterile and bubbly, and the navigation buttons are too small. It basically looks like the kind of thing an overpaid firm would build for an executive who doesn't know anything about web design.

Oh, and "A short text to describe your mom" is pretty brilliant.

Whatever, I'm sure we'll all learn to cope with the things that can't be fixed.

Also, how has nobody yet mentioned how cool the friends and foes lists are?

jon - template, avatar placement and friends & foes all addressed in this thread. Agreed about BB code. If it brought obvious advantages, fine, but I'm not aware.

On most of the web, some random person can't put html on someone else's page. There are obvious risks.

One specific advantage of the HTML ban: Forum Spambots, if they manage to slip through PHPBB3's new spambot guards (whatever they are, I'm not quite sure) will need to use BBCode to display their porn images. I'm pretty sure they don't do that at the moment.

Also, the new version has CAPTCHA auth for signing up as a user, which should also help cut down on spambot registrations.

Plus, you can now report posts that are inappropriate, so we can act on them sooner and you don't feel like you're sitting there unable to do anything about the horrible, horrible naked ladies suddenly appearing on your virgin screen.
