Re: The Unofficial Song Fight! Jukebox
Ha. Yes, I still have a job. I'm doing some contract work through December, so I have a slightly non-traditional schedule that's allowed for some extra personal coding time. Also I'm riding a wave of high motivation. We'll see how long that lasts. The idea of doing an Android app might keep it up though.

Re: The Unofficial Song Fight! Jukebox
Oh, right, the podcast feed is first on the list and most things just autodetect the first one now instead of presenting a choice. It's at http://www.songfight.org/rss.phpLunkhead wrote:Oh cool, I didn't know there was an RSS feed with the new titles. What's the URL?

Re: The Unofficial Song Fight! Jukebox
Yeah, the RSS reader app I tried only loaded the first one. I wonder how many other people knew about that RSS feed? I also wonder if more people would know about it if maybe there were an RSS icon of some sort in the general vicinity of the "next week's fight" area of the homepage that linked to the RSS feed for the new titles.

Who made this rss feed? This is the first I've heard about it (that I can remember)... I did not do a search of phpbb to refresh my memory...

Re: The Unofficial Song Fight! Jukebox
I don't know who made it. This is the first time I've heard about it. Seems like a neat idea to me, for however little that's worth.
In other news, the jukebox will now also tweet about new titles to @sfarchivist , for those of you who use Twitter.

Spud, I told you about it on IM (I put it there at the same time as the calendar feed), and you were annoyed about it then. Then a couple years later (maybe a month ago?) it came up again and you were annoyed all over again.

Re: The Unofficial Song Fight! Jukebox
It's pretty cool, though little known. Here's the thread that lead to its creation:fluffy wrote:... There's also a calendar feed at http://songfight.org/cal.php/songfight.ics
http://www.songfight.net/forums/viewtop ... =12&t=6965
Looky there, fluffy did indeed also mention the title RSS feed. I completely forgot.
What's funny about that thread is that frankie still hasn't entered since then.

Well, my memory may be faulty, but at least my attitude is consistent. I can be re-annoyed every time it comes up.fluffy wrote:Spud, I told you about it on IM (I put it there at the same time as the calendar feed), and you were annoyed about it then. Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
For those of you that use Twitter, the Jukebox will now also tweet to my @sfarchivist account when the songs for the new fight go up.
I may add an email notification about it too at some point. It looks like I've only gotten a few takers so far on the new title email though so maybe I won't bother. I guess everybody just hits refresh on the boards or songfight.org a lot? I'd be curious to hear from one of the three users signed up for the new title email if it's adjusting the due date correctly to fit their time zone. (So far all the people other than me who are signed up are in the eastern US.)

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
New title emails and tweets should include the optional challenges now. I didn't know how to parse them out before because I didn't have an example to work with, but now I have one.

I love the new title email. I just won't be able to take part in this fight... but it was fantastic to get that email in my box and say, "heyyyyyy, can i do this?"

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
I suggest that if you use Twitter you follow @songfight because I've changed the SF! Jukebox so that it tweets about new songs going up and about new titles going up to that account (instead of @sfarchivist). For example, one hour ago it tweeted this:
"Occupy My Heart" songs are up! http://songfight.org #songfight

we made that a while ago. like, years. I remember us talking about it though. We never could get the whole fight into one update, because the multi-attachments weren't behaving.Spud wrote:Who made this rss feed? This is the first I've heard about it (that I can remember)... Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
There's two RSS feeds, one for the podcast (which you and Spud did) and one for the upcoming title (that I hacked together). Right now both are on the page's feed discovery but these days most readers only detect the first one (the podcast) because they just assume that there's no way there could be multiple streams of data from one site, because everything gets stupider as time goes on.
Having specific RSS icons in the appropriate section of the page (one in the sidebar, one in the fight area) that link to the respective feeds would probably help if only because then people don't have to view the page source to see what they're subscribing to.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
I got the Jukebox set up to post the new titles to the Song Fight! Facebook page, so if you are on Facebook, go like the page if you haven't already, and you'll see the posts with the new titles.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
OK, so I've set up tweets and Facebook page posts about 1) a new title going up, 2) new songs going up, and 3) the results of a fight going up. If you sign up on the Jukebox you can opt to get emailed about new titles.
Does anybody want to get emailed about the songs going up or about the results going up? I haven't done that but it'd be pretty easy for me to do that if anybody would actually use it.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
Is there a way to put the Forums link for the current fight on the current fight page? You have the Go Vote link there (which is off course a static link to the SF homepage), but one must go all the way to the fight page to get to the forum link and my god, that's just a huge voyage.

Good idea! I'll probably put a "Discuss" link down next to the "Go Vote!" link.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
This one's a big development, from my perspective, though probably not meaningful to anybody else. You can now sign up/in to the Jukebox using Twitter and Facebook. I haven't done any UI design stuff for this yet, just thrown some buttons on a page for testing, so it doesn't look great and isn't necessarily visible where it should be yet. Anyway, if you go to the log in page:
http://sfjukebox.org/login
... there are buttons at the bottom to log in with Twitter and Facebook. For Facebook, you'll have to sign in to Facebook, grant the Jukebox access to your account (I promise it will not do anything with your account at all other than just sign you in), and then you should be logged in. For Twitter, you'll have to sign in to Twitter, grant the Jukebox access to your account (see previous promise), then also provide an email address to complete the signup process (Twitter doesn't provide email addresses, and my site requires one for now, though maybe I'll change that).
For the very few of you who've already signed up with the Jukebox, please don't sign up again this way. If you want to connect your Twitter/Facebook accounts to your existing Jukebox accounts, so that you can sign in with Twitter or Facebook in the future, just log in to the Jukebox and visit one or both of these links:
http://sfjukebox.org/connect/twitter
http://sfjukebox.org/connect/facebook
I will soon provide UIs for showing whether a Jukebox account has been linked to Twitter/FB and for linking an account if it's not already linked in the future as well.
