Vote for at least 2 songs?

It's been a while since I have been here and I only did a brief search but what's up with the having to vote for at least 2 entries thing? I voted for my favorite song and it told me I had to vote for at least 2 entries and to make sure I listened to all of the songs. I listened to all of the songs, or at least as much of them as I needed to and voted. Doesn't voting for more than one entry cancel my vote for my favorite song? WTF?

Choose your second favorite or something. Multiple voting has been here for a long time and it's MUCH more fair than a single-vote system.

Personally, I just vote for all the ones I like.

The current multi-vote system has been around since June of 2008 ("Walking the Border"), and compulsory multiple voting - in which your vote doesn't count unless it's for at least two songs - has been in place for about a month now. The problem was that a significant number of contributors were winning simply by advertising on their social network of choice and getting all their "friends" to cast single-artist votes without listening to the songs (or maybe listening to the one by the person who referred them, but only that one). This devalued the victory, and thereby devalued the main site. Under the new system, these people are encouraged to at least sample a few other songs and find someone else to vote for.

Personally, I normally vote for roughly 20-30% of the songs (the ones I like, basically). There has been one occasion since the introduction of multiple votes in which I really did think only one song deserved the vote, so I sympathize if you really listened to them all but only thought one was worthy. In that scenario, I recommend picking the one that sucked the least out of the songs you didn't vote for, hold your nose, and vote for it. If the system is working properly, that one extra vote won't make a big difference.

Hey Spud, has there been a decline in the apparent friend-flooding since you implemented the new system?

Survey says yes - the vote distributions since that last single-vote-allowed fight have become MUCH more balanced, and at least from the text it's implied that Torrentz and Elephant Kitties were both friend-flooding.

I think this is a great change to have made because it means that votes are actually worth more than saying how many friends the entrant has. At least until flooders start gaming the system and ask people to vote specifically for one of the worst two songs as the second choice (or at least the one they SEE as the worst, which might actually be the best anyway).

Yeah, I think it is a very good voting system. SF has needed something like this for a long time. Whoever thought of it is brilliant. If it was MG, then I retract that fine how-do-you-do. :D
