The Departed
Short review: This was great. The unlikely casting (specifically including Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Marky Mark, Papa Sheen, and Alec Baldwin) works perfectly. Engaging, funny, nailbiting, and clever. My only complaint is that some of the twists feel a little contrived. Or maybe I'm just slow. A

Yes, contrived, but it's charming enough to overcome that imo. Damn, this was a movie and a half. I liked it quite a lot. Matt Damon is so good. Alec Baldwin owns every scene he's in, to echo the NYT. Having just watched Mean Streets, I don't know that I could call it good for a Scorsese film (given that's such a high mark to meet... and also that I don't know I would call Gangs or Aviator the same), but it's very good for an action/suspense one.

It's a pretty solid piece of entertainment. It's no Infernal Affairs, but I like the way Scorsese made the material feel like it was his. And go Marky Mark! He's easily the best and most likeable I've ever seen him. The people in the audience kept gasping at the violence and commenting on it. I guess it's pretty violent. I dunno. But anyway, B.

I guess I'm the only one who thought Marky Mark was a douche bag. Horrible delivery, too wooden and as intimidating as a high school kid who realizes his friend is next to him.
But I hate Marky Mark for real, so I could have been prejudiced. (I just didn't think the album "To the Extreme" was ever forgivable, even if he tries to act now)
