Turn And Face The Strange: A David Bowie Tribute

Post by Jerkatorium »

People have voiced an interest in a David Bowie tribute/Coverfight, and now is as good a time as any.

Deadline is Sunday, February 8, 2016. Chumpy has offered to host it, so email your submissions to chumpy.wumpikins(at)gmail(dot)com. The website/links to the songs will be provided later.

If you are doing FAWM then you should try to finish and submit your cover by January 31. That is two and a half weeks (including 3 weekends) away, so it is still very doable.

So who's in? Call dibs on the song you want to cover by replying here with your choice.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go shave my eyebrows off...

I will try to do a song or two but I don't mind if someone else does the same song(s) as me.

I'm sure that's fine. I like the idea of having a lot of variety, but I know that some chose the same songs for the Ramones and Talking Heads tributes and that was good.

Perhaps this is not dibs, but so you all know, the Cavedwellers plan on doing Moonage Daydream.
I hope to do a Kraken Lives song, and maybe BSS if the guys are into it. Moonage Daydream is the only decision so far, and I also don't mind multiples of a song.

have you guys heard the Glenn Case "Modern Love"? its awesome!

I'm in, for sure. Not sure, however, which one to do - maybe 'Absolute Beginners' or most ikely, 'Starman' ... or 'Jean Genie' - the list goes on and so do I ...

And if I have time my top choice is probably "Rebel, Rebel." But don't let that stop anyone else from doing it too.

Jerkatorium is working on "Suffragette City". But that doesn't mean that nobody else should do it.

That is my first instinct too. Though "life on Mars" or"changes" also have appeal

I might take a stab at this. Not a lot of time. Ideas on a deadline or just...whenever?

Oooh, not sure if I'll go for it. "Life on Mars" is my favorite. It's pretty difficult vocally, but I guess they all are. Probably "Quicksand" would be my choice though. It's the first song I thought of when I heard he'd died.

I'm interested but I feel a bit intimidated by the source material. If anybody has any suggestions on what song they think might be a good match for me, I could use some help figuring out what song to cover.

I'll hang my hat on "Little Wonder", though between my usual procrastination, highly elastic view of deadlines, and the Kimi situation, I'm sure I'll be quite tardy with the cover.

I would cover every Bowie song if I could... David Bowie is my Hero. Was feeling very sad and alienated when I heard the news from Thailand. Felt like I was on another planet getting the information through other people's lives. I'm pretty sure I was listening to Blackstar for the first time as Bowie was dying... If anyone needs vocals, please give me a shout. I would love to be a part of this.

Bump. Just a reminder that the Bowie covers are due in a little over a week.

Also I just realized that Sunday is the 7th and Monday is the 8th, so the deadline is actually Monday, February 8, 2016.
