There's currently a David Bowie one ongoing. And after that I'd really like to see an Original Flava since we haven't had one of those in a while.

[EDIT] By popular request, here's the current coverfight's status!

Participants have been notified. They are:

HeuristicsInc
inflatable vegetables
Jerkatorium
Johnny Cashpoint
King Arthur
Octothorpe
Paco del Stinko
Schlimminy Cricket / Trotsky and Marx
Sockpuppet
Tiny Robots / Loyalty Day

Entries are due March 21, 2016. wait I mean April 4, 2016

EDIT: http://songfight.net/cf2016

In case anybody else was wondering, an Original Flava fight is where you are randomly assigned one of the other participants and you must cover a song from their SF catalog. Sounds super fun.

I'd be into the Flava. First year here there was something similar. Total Request, or something?

IIRC, Total Request (which I didn't participate in) was where the covermaster (JB, I think?) chose not only who was going to cover whom, but which song of theirs they would do. Which seems like it would be really really difficult for the covermaster. It was a simpler time with a much smaller archive.

Okay so nobody else has stepped up so I'm running this one.

Either post in this thread or PM me by Sunday, February 21 to state your interest in joining, and ideally say which music is up for grabs if you're one of those weirdoes who submits under multiple band names or whatever.

I'll do one, but not til after this month o' Feb.
I'm in some other bands but if you cover one of those it should be one where I did the vocals. And if you can't figure that out, then just do one under my bandname.

I am in, too. The Paco catalog is deep enough for whomever to rummage through, but if you want to try one of my other entries, go for it. Some are listed somewhere on the boards, somewhere...

It's not that bad if you restrict covers to the people who are participating. Then you just choose from the back catalog of the participants-- not the whole SF archive.

It was the back catalog of participants that I felt wouldn't scale - some people here have lots and lots of songs, and having to actually listen to each participant's back catalog in order to figure out what should be covered and whose styles would fit is still a pretty big burden. Unless you're Niveous and know every song by everyone already. :)

Sure, but if it's too much trouble then you just don't volunteer to be covermaster. ;) Honestly the biggest PITA is putting the songs up somewhere and running the voting and whatever else you choose to do. Picking who does what is almost certainly the least amount of work. The absolute MOST amount of work is steeling yourself to be ok with the fact that the people you assign songs to definitely won't create the masterpiece you hear for them in your head.

Funny, for me "putting the songs up somewhere" seems like the easiest part. It's the assigning and cat-herding and sending a bunch of PMs manually (even with copy-paste) and so on that seems like the difficult bit.
