Dux! Revisited!

Post by Nigel (spOOn) Clements »

Some of you may remember the Dux! topic, originally placed by King Arthur (Charles), and acted upon by several SongFighters! (I myself did a cover of Octothorpe's 'The Blue Signal'), I always thought that this was a brilliant suggestion and always had it in the back of my mind to go back to this idea and begin a slow and steady process of ploughing my unwieldy way through the archives of nil-vote-getting tracks...

So with an air of trepidation may I present my cover version of the Marcus Kellis original 'A Variation on Two'.

Without inadvertently sparking the "That's not really a cover version" debate again, I'd like to explain how I go about the process of 'Interpreting' or 'Re-imagining' a track, first I'll listen to the original a few times, until I can hear it in my mind, but what I'll hear isnt the original version, but a warped spOOnitized version, I'll then set about trying to get those sounds from my mind and into an audible format (though not always with decent results!!!)

Anyway here's the second in my occasional series...

Gonna be your Man by King Arthur

Re-Imagined in a spOOnish kind of way!

Did anyone ever work out who "The King of All The Ducks" is? I think I've got about 4. (yes - that number seems surprisingly small to me too - I better recheck that)

Just looking over that list, I'm a master of dux. It may only say 3 dux for Niveous but when you add in Calque's duck, Silent E's three dux, Tokyoquake's duck; that's 8 dux for me. :(

I have had an odd relationship with the voting public.

i get the sausage boy dux as well as the jonny juice and the good time boys dux.

Looking at my standing on the list kind of makes me wonder what the hell i'm still doing here.

What you're still doing here is being entertaining and original, mainstream will always win in the end, but left of centre independant will always be cool! (least that's what I think!!)...

Something I've been meaning to do for a while. Don't know why this is even elligible as I'm pretty sure I voted for it. Also I couldn't decide how to cover it so I did both; so, Those Meddling Kids & Carpetburn presents the song Michael Keaton dreads hearing.....'Glutton' by Denyer.

I probably would be the king of dux if I hadn't voted for myself several times in my old fights.

Nice work Pete, The Indie-Rock version is jangle-pop excellent (shit, now I sound like smashy or is it nicey!?!), think like the track covered that way because it's so different from the original.

Furthering my pursuit of taking rough gems and overlooked treasures and then turning them into mush, here's another, originally from 2003 (I think!)...

That's awesome, Spoons. Thanks so much - I love the space dub feel, the bassline and the overall chilled vibe. This song always held a soft spot in my black heart (I played it live at SF:UK) but never felt I had the requisite light touch to do it justice. And yes, i chould check the dates, but it's either late 2003 (I first SFed in late November) or perhaps Jan 2004...
