I'd like to hear the second part of the opus - where they go outside and viciously tear apart native animals for fun. Just like my cats do.
Cats. Feral nightmares.

I like Fiona's song better. Werner got robbed.
Good "song" fluff. Now work on Werner's song before he develops social anxieties.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
Contrary to the name of this forum, this isn't actually a highlight, but on the other hand it also isn't a new song as the thread title implies. It's just a remake of that song Signboy and I built together some time ago, not really intended to be an awesome result but just something to demonstrate that I still exist, even though I haven't been doing much here recently. I really don't have enough time for writing and recording anymore – it's fairly lucky I even managed to set aside the one hour in which I made this.

My latest is called "Avocado Song," and it's an autobiographical piece about my recent injury.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
Lmao! Love it, jon. Before I listened, I thought for sure you would say "the pits" in there somewhere. And when you rhymed deal with "it", I was ready for pits, but you said "shit". I was all.....
...and at the end where you say fuck me fuck me, you have my permission to also say "and BLT" because it rhymes and I wasn't very forthcoming with the pity (no pun intended).
One more thing. I think your recorded sound is better on a vid cam (for the most part) than when you twiddle knobs on your DAW, lol. More lively, matched ambiance and less sterile. Maybe that should be your sound you use as a template to do studio mixing to. Put it on track 24 for a quick reference track while dialing in your EQ and ambiance for a song you're mixing. I say this because your above recording has the thing I have said to you a thousand times that you never seem to get. Your piano and vocals sound like they are in the same room. Why? Because they are! So again, use that as a reference track and force your ears to repeat it until they always hear it that way.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
Joke's on you, dude. The microphone isn't picking up the piano. I'm singing into the microphone, but the piano is being recorded via line-out cables on its backside.Billy's Little Trip wrote: I say this because your above recording has the thing I have said to you a thousand times that you never seem to get. There are three concrete differences that I can figure out between my audio-only recording process and my video recording process.
1.) The microphone is in a different room from when I do audio-only recording
2.) The audio is being recorded into a Logitech video capture program instead of into Cubase.
3.) I'm playing piano and singing at the same time.
I think the "sound" is better on my videos than on my recordings because of some element of performance that changes when I'm accompanying myself. It's easier to create an organic-sounding performance when I'm playing piano and singing at the same time than when I'm doing either separately.

Well there you go. I may have been wrong about a vid cam recording, BUT I made you analyze it as to why it sounds well gelled. Therefor ................. me >>>>

I've been thinking about that for a while now, but okay, you can take the credit.

On a less vulgar note... Here's a more serious ballad. It's called "The Neighborhood Dogs."

Generic, you have always been one of my favorites on SF. And I always find your videos to be a treat.
Not so much with the vulgar song, it doesn't fit you at all. Your voice is so innocent (whether you are or not) that it clashes for me.
But the Neighborhood Dogs song was great. Beautiful piano and delightful vocal melody. This is the kind of song I associate with you.

From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
That's exactly WHY I like it. I like extreme contrasts mixed together. When I go to the bakery to pick up a cake or good bread, I always get a black and white cookie to munch on while I wait. I like to hear children cuss in songs. I like to see big burly tough guys crocheting doilies. I like sweet and sour chicken and beef mixed. Chameleons.......just plain awesome!Rone Rivendale wrote:Not so much with the vulgar song, it doesn't fit you at all. Your voice is so innocent (whether you are or not) that it clashes for me.
Jon looks and sounds like a nerdy good boy cussing his ass off. He's my little Jewish black and white cookie.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
I was working out an idea for Round 3 of Nur Ein that didn't pan out. I really liked the melody around "Pythagorean Theorem," so I went with it and demoed a song about my recent love affair with mathematical proofs (I probably hadn't done any math in 15 years until recently). Anyway, it's definitely a demo...the vocals are affected and restrained, because everyone was home during recording. But I like where it's going...gonna keep working in it.

I just re-kindled my one man black metal project (hoping to enter some fights with it soon) and thought since it's clearly everyone's favorite genre of music here (ha!) I'd put up a link to it. Enjoy some depressive, lo-fi, sci-fi-influenced black metal!

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
Tubba, why are the drums only in my left ear? And don't say because they are panned all left, the ques-tee-own is rhetorical.
Also, avoid noodling on guitar, especially if it sounds like a mistake, lol. (3:48'ish on the left)
Here's a not so secret secret. Instead of panned out right and left guitars doing different noodley things, just double track one guitar and pan IT out right and left. It fattens it up, PLUS you can toss in a closing bit to the measure with some sweet guitarmonizing and blow minds with awesome lickity-bits.
With all that said, it sounds like you're having fun making music and that's all that matters. Isn't fun the best thing to have?

Thanks for listening! I'll try tweaking my mixes a bit more with the guitars, appreciate the input. And yeah, I am having fun!
