Sounds good Melvin. It kind of took out the over produced sound of the original and brought to a grass roots level. Nice.

Thanks Melvin, I'm not sure why you think you covering The Smiths is a bad idea, I really like your song... granted I've never heard the Original... which I am tracking down as I type this... but I have a feeling after listening to your version... the Original will pale in comparison... I really dig the choruses w/ backing vocals... great stuff.

Thanks fellas. I just hold The Smiths on a pedestal, so it's hard to live up. Very glad you guys liked it though!

Hey Melvin just heard your 'Panic' and thought I had to say Nice approach, kinda Reel Big Fish do the Smiths in a sub-ska style, so many good elements from a master of his craft.

I think the songs up so far both sound very good. UJN, your voice could maybe come up a bit early on, but good work. Inspiring and motivating, gents, thanks for leading the charge.

A little reminder that you all have just under three weeks to the deadline - and to send mp3s to johnny_cashpoint@yahoo.co.uk when you're done to get yourself on the fight page ... further details on the first page. I look forward to hearing all the entries then. I will post another remind with two weeks, a week, and three days to go.

Are we listening to the same Smiths? That do0d is all about fills and 3 layered guitar. Sure, there are a few songs he kinda dumbs down to one guitar track but even then he does the whole major to minor thing within the rhythm.

Hey Paco - I've been sidetracked a bit and haven't had much chance to work on our entry.

Guarantee I'll be done by the deadline though.

Not a problem, Ray. It's in your good hands. I'm still in the conceptual stage, but have no doubts about making the deadline. Just about ready to hit record.

Even as a guitar player, other guitarists don't really excite me very much - Hendrix, Clapton etc. all tend to leave me pretty cold - but Johnny Marr is one that I really do like. Don't know what it is about him - but what he does on those Smiths songs is magic. I find most of Morrissey's solo stuff pretty unlistenable without the Marr guitar.

It turns out we will most likely be doing Rusholme Ruffians instead of William it was Really Nothing. I'm excited! I love both songs, so I'm happy either way.

I'm down for sure. I'll also be doing a 'live' version of something later this week. There's a couple Smiths tunes in my repertoire that haven't been spoken for here.

My 'live' recordings didn't come out too good, so I went with a 'studio' version. Sent it in over the weekend.

Only a week left and I have a finished 'Cynthia' version that I'm happy with, though some may call it sacrilege, I will endeavour to complete something more 'Organic' though I don't make any promises on that score!

So for those that will be deeply disgusted with my Cynthia Size version of 'Is It Really So Strange' then I sincerely apologise. (I would post a workable link here, but I'm having a touch of intermittent PC trouble at the moment!)

Three days to go - get finishing (or starting) - if you want it in, send it in!
