Don't feel any rush from my end. I'm an inveterate stiffer myself, having once stiffed GlennCase for over two years.

As for the list's difficulty, I feel that only the jazz and sacred harp tunes were inherently difficult. Angeline Baker and Down the Road are relatively simple at their cores; the difficulty of the arrangements I posted stems mostly from the embellishments that the musicians added to the tunes. Anyone can play Purple Haze but nobody can play it like Hendrix. Same goes for a lot of these trad tunes and god knows it doesn't stop me from murdering Stephen Foster tunes on a weekly basis. Be glad that none of you have ever had to sit through my shit arrangement of Hard Times Come Again No More.
My other music is Old Time / shape note.

Lunkhead wrote:I volunteered to help out doing covers for those who got stiffed, and today I finally finished my cover. This one's for you, BLT:

"Santa Monica" by Everclear, covered by Lunkhead

I thought about trying to do "Debaser" or "Stop" as I really love those songs, but I felt like the Everclear song was the one I could change up the most and have some fun with. I may upload a new version with Erin singing the lead, if I can pin her down to record some vox, but for now it's just me. Anyway, I hope you like it.
Awesome track, Lunk.

The assignments went out around November 7th. You appeared on the scene on December 21st with a list of songs. You're not officially in BUT you did unstiff a stiffee (I feel dirty just typing that), so perhaps someone would be kind enough to cover one of the songs on LSK's list:

All My Friends - LCD Soundsystem
Don't Say A Word - Sonata Arctica
My Girls - Animal Collective
Gronlandic Edit - Of Montreal

That's a very tempting list. I was just listening to Gronlandic Edit last night. Not ready to commit, though, not with my We Keep Them Alive entry so up-in-the-air.

Dude, you are more than welcome.
Its far rougher than I was hoping, and other than me sister being a far better singer than me, the week surrounding the couple of days I'd set aside for myself to track the voclas, I had the worst toothache than anyone has ever had in the history of the world. So I'm sorry for the off keyness, but hey I sung it with Love.

Actually I was really surprise by this song, Id never heard it or the rest of your list before, so I listened, and whaddaya know, I have heard this one before. But not as it is, I know it as the Father Ted theme. Awesome. There was no way I wasnt going to cover this one then. Im also considering doing a full on \m/etal version of My lovely horse now. hehe

Any way I do hope you enjoyed it.

Hopefully they will also get posted on the Soultree site :-)

Leaf requested "Things I do For Money" by The Northern Pikes. I saw them open for Peter Frampton in Ventura in 1989 and they were just a great live band - bought a CD the next day - so this was fun to try to do "my way."

I hope you like it Leaf, and I look forward to hearing what you do when your soundboard is back.

Very nice Ross, you've highlighted their country roots more. Fun song eh?

My freakin mixing board is still in Vancouver getting fixed... the tech told me that it required a whole re-build on the power supply and whatever...

I have now been told "three weeks". We'll see about that. i've decided to get an M-Audio lightbridge though, that way my board and a bunch of other stuff I got can all firewire in to the computer... mothball my Delta 1010 (I was only direct out of the board into the 1010 anyway, kinda redundant)... but when that thing shows up I can then get back to making some music on the PC WITHOUT my board using an ultragain 8 xlr preamp device that is also lightpiped... which will be damn sweet.

Thanks Ross for doing that one up... appreciate it!

Here is the text of a PM I sent tonight:

"Hello Mr. Hat,

Last year you participated in the Gift of Music. Unfortunatley you were stiffed and did not receive a cover song. I headed up a committee to make sure every participant got a song - even if their assigned person stiffed them. At the time, you were like, "Don't worry about me, besides I stiffed someone...." something like that. But it has been on my mind this whole time to make sure that you also got your cover. But the youtube videos you lined too were so INTIMIDATING.

Anyway - in honor of last christmas - here is your cover of Angelina baker - sorry it is a little rough around the edges - Ilke to think it gives it a "live" feel.
