SpinTunes #1

Post by Spintown »

I have a lot of friends that used to compete in Master's Of Song Fu. After the last edition of the tournament the d-bag/drama queen who runs it shut it down. Since then many of them have been wanting something to replace it. I suggested Song Fight & Nur Ein to most of them. I got Denise & Graham to compete in Nur Ein, and Denise along with at least 1 more plan on competing in Song Fight eventually.

Most of the people wanted something different though. Nur Ein took too long for many to commit to & didn't allow any breaks between rounds. Nur Ein is definately the toughest of the 3 competitions. The problem most had with song fight was they wanted a multiple round competition. Song Fu was sort of in between Song Fight & Nur Ein. So I'm considering doing a small competition on my blog. I don't know if I'll get enough interest to do it, but I figured if I get 12ish people to commit I'll get the ball rolling. 2 Song Fuers committed right after I posted the blog, but I can't say how may will do it. Song Fighters are of course open to participate. In the slim chance more then 20 want to participate, that's fine. Unlike Song Fu, the more the merrier.

It's basically Song Fu meets Nur Ein. I'm borrowing very strongly from both sites, and hope Niveous doesn't mind. Hell I'd love him to be a judge or participate if he's willing. More details by clicking the link:

Once I get 12 people saying they are interested, I'll start making a final schedule. I'd like to get started within a couple weeks if we get the interest.

So far I've had 3 Song Fuers commit, and now maybe you. The blog post only went up a couple hours ago, so it's looking promising at least. I'm hoping the Song Fu regulars will see this in the morning & all jump on board. I know at least 1 more person that will join for sure.

maybe you'll get the same people who committed to the "circle of titles" and didn't bother to finish anything.

It's always a possibility to get some people who won't follow through unfortunately. I know most of the people really well that have committed, and they will give a good effort.

As of right now I've had 9 firm commmitments (waitingon 3 more before I post an official sign up blog), and I've had 3 yesish maybes. So it's looking promising still.

Count me in.

And hey, you know, if you're worried about people dropping out, just add more to start with, just start with more. There's always Nur Ein dropouts, though I can see how your sidefight would be disappointing if you start with 12 and then 5 contestants default.

I'm happy you're down with this. There is no max number for this tournament, so I plan on taking more then 12 if I can get it. (looks like it'll be well over 12) If this thing works out, and we do another iteration of it in the future, I might cap how many are allowed to join. For this first one....I'll take everyone.

Glad you're on board, the offical sign up went up later then expected, but it's up now.

20 have now officially signed up, and I posted a rough draft of the schedule. It'll be flexible, so we probably won't stay on it perfectly. But it should give people an idea of what to expect.

Schedule:

Official Sign Up Form: (must send e-mail to be officially IN the contest)

Cool, cool.

When you announce the first title, will you be posting it multiple places, since you are bringing together people from multiple communities? Or is there a certain place. Will need to be sure we check?

Thanks.

I created this blog just for the contest. It's linked to my main site, but by doing this people can just sub the RSS feed and get updates just about the contest, without getting updates about all the other stuff I post on my site. That will be home base for everything contest related. I also created a @SpinTunes twitter account which I'll try to send out updates on.

http://spintunes.blogspot.com/

Of the people who signed up:
17 are from Masters Of Song Fu
6 are from Song Fight/Nur Ein
8 are basically noobs from the TMA community / YouTube / or just people who stumbled onto the contest from who knows where

Woo hoo!!! Last in the door!

I almost forgot to send in the form. Barely been on the computer at all these last couple of days, but I logged on for a moment, saw that the deadline was looming, and snapped it off.

Looking forward to competing. The field looks mighty crowded. :)

It's packed alright. And the first challenge just got posted. This should be a 'fun' challenge for the nerds of the group.

Cool Challenge.

You say something about "The title for this round..." is the song supposed to have a specific title, or just live up to the challenge? I only because I at songfight/nur ein there is a specific title but at SongFu there does not appear to be, and I want ot make sure I am doing the right thing.

While we're nitpicking, it occurs to me to ask: should it be from the point of view of an already-established hero or villain, or can we make up characters?

I'm not nitpicking. I am genuinely confused and want to clarify so I don't screw up.

Is "Pedantic Man" an already-established hero or villain? If not, he is now.

Seems like all the Song Fighters had the same questions.

- You do not have to use the title in the song at all, and your song can be titled whatever you like. That's just the title of the "round"....not your songs.

- The challenge does not say it has to be a superhero already in existence, popular or well known. So you have plenty of options with this challenge.

If there's any more questions just ask. You can also ask them on the blog or by e-mailing me if you're in a hurry.

So....who's writing about Howard The Duck? :p

What's this all about? Sounds like a Nur Ein style side fight. I'm too late for it, but it should be interesting to hear the results.

I wouldn't have time anyway. I'm trying to get back into SONG FIGHT proper title fights and it's hard enough to do one song for that. :?

Good luck, all.

I started something to take the place of Masters Of Song Fu. The guy that runs it sort of dropped the ball big time, and the people who compete in it were wanting something new. It takes elements from Masters Of Song Fu & Nur Ein, then combines them. It is very much like a mini Nur Ein. If all goes well I'm hoping to do about 3 of them a year.
