When I try to play that video I am told "Please sign in to view this video." Can you make it public?

D'oh. I may have been operating at slightly less than optimum when I posted that last night. Try it now.

It's been long enough, here it is. This was fun to make. Lyrics are posted, and they're great lyrics.

I'll take another one if you got one.

Ok CR, here's what came up for you:

"God Will Give You Blood to Drink" by The Butterskoskostage

http://sfjukebox.org/songs/god_will_giv ... koskostage

Kind of a weird song. You can probably do something cool with that though, I bet.

Well, I tried to go Steely Dan with this, which definitely did not simplify the process. I could spend another month getting it just exactly perfect, but here's what it is... apologies for the synth sax, to those who are sensitive to such stuff...

http://www.charleswolff.com/kingarthur_ ... terdam.mp3

I posted something close to the original lyric here:

http://songfight.net/forums/viewtopic.p ... 89#p197967

But I also did a lot of tweaking of the lyrics, so here's something close to what I ended up wtih:

AMSTERDAM by Old Man Grumpus (lyrics alt KA)

Sometimes cultures have a golden age
When the wealthiest
And the shiniest descend onto the stage
Pacing down the avenue you could hear them say,
"We are the beautiful, our riches bountiful,
Our ships magnificent, our successes limited by no man."
Back in the seventeenth century, the wealthiest lived in Amsterdam
In the seventeenth century, the wealthiest lived in Amsterdam.

Growing up, my throat choked on the smoke,
Under where the freeways
Wove the cars the famous drove.
Walking down Sepulveda, I could hear the words they spoke,
"We are the beautiful, our lives are bountiful
Our homes magnificent, our success unlimited, it's all good."
And in the twentieth century, the glamorous lived in Hollywood
In the twentieth century, the glamorous lived in Hollywood.

Today, Amsterdam is where they go to get their kicks
And Hollywood's just a jumble of the broken and the rich.
Anyway, all of us are nothing more than hicks
Are poorer than we used to be
And everybody I meet says to me,
Everyone I meet, they say to me

"We are not beautiful, life is not bountiful,
We are insignificant, success is never guaranteed,
To you or me.
Back in the seventeenth century,
The wealthiest lived in Amsterdam.
In the twentieth century,
The wealthiest lived in Hollywood.
Now in the Twenty first century,
Most of us can't have that we need."

I just had a thought. For those of you posting the lyrics to old songs, would you mind please linking those posts to this thread in some way? That way if somebody is for some reason looking at the lyrics thread for a fight and sees some lyrics that were posted many years later by somebody who is not the author of the song, they'll have a way to know what that is all about.

I am quite intrigued by this, right up my alley. If I re-open my Somesongs acct, can I use that as the hosting link?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean "use that as the hosting link" but if you want to reopen your SomeSongs account go for it! So far people have posted mp3s, I've downloaded them, then uploaded them to my site and linked the leaderboard to those, except for the YouTube videos, in which case I just linked to the YouTube videos. Whatever is fine with me.

Paco, did you happen to hear my homage to you?

Anyway, here's a random song for you!
