Dumbledore can't be Harry's Patronus because James Potter in stag form is already his patronus. You can't change your patronus. Maybe he'll be Hermione's patronus or something. I always thought there was a connection there

The tweaker-girl's patronus changed. That pink-haired shapeshifter who's in love with the werewolf... I can't remember the names, and am too lazy to migrate to the bookshelf to sound more literate, heh.

They discuss in Book 6 how a traumatic event could change your patronus. After Sirius died, Tonks' patronus changed to a werewolf because of her depression re: Sirius' death and Remus' refusal to start a relationship with her.

That said, I think that Harry's Patronus being a stag is already significant enough and changing it to a Phoenix or something would be less meaningful.

edit: RG beat me to it. But I'm backing him up with the names and facts and such. :P

True about the traumatic experience. However, I'm sure Dumbledore's death held the same significance for Harry as Sirius' death and after Sirius died his patronus didn't change. Dumbledore will make some sort of a reappearance, he was too huge of a character not to. But for Harry's patronus to change from the figure of his own father to his headmaster seems a little too odd.

I'm almost willing to put money on the fact that Dumbledore will come back the way Harry's parents did during Harry's duel with Voldemort at the end of "Goblet of Fire". Priori Incanti or whatever it was called. Snape's wand will have the same magical source as some important character, they will duel, Dumbledore will come out, and do something.

I read an opinion of some critic who seemed pretty sure that he had the ending sorted.. it was to do with Harry being the 7th horcrux and so seemingly needing to commit suicide to defeat Voldemort. But this guy reckons that instead of killing himself, he can just abscond his magic and go about the rest of his life in normality.

I thought this was a decent theory, but
1) I'm not sure if wizards can do that.. can they?
and 2) how would that help defeat Voldemort? Would he lose his powers too and just die?

Anyway, I'm very excited to find out what happens. This is really the end of an era! In years to come, kids reading the books will probably know the ending/general story from the films or from hearing about them or whatever. So us peeps are in a pretty cool position right now!

Only one more sleep now!

I'm going to a special "Wizards Breakfast" tomorrow in the local park, ready for the official opening of the boxes and handing out of the books at 9:01am.

I have my Slytherin uniform ready to wear, and my wife has a Gryffindor T-shirt. My daughter wants to dress as a fairy. 3-year-olds are so stupid.

I can imagine you as a Slytherin :P And hey, there must be fairies somewhere in the Harry Potter universe. Or at least get her to be a mermaid and that would definitely be canon ;)

I'll be driving from Camden to home very fast at 11ish so I can get to the tail end of the Barnes and Noble Harry Potter party. It's very strange to think there will be no books after this (Oh god, I'm getting old, I've seen a huge series/franchise begin and end ten years later. Oh god, I'm so old. :? )

I haven't picked up a copy yet, but I'm tempted to try to hunt one down. I only read the other books last summer, so this is the first time for me that a new book has come out. I want to read this one before it gets ruined for me somehow. Also we just watched the new movie last night, so that's got me even more interested. On the other hand, I know if I buy it I'll do nothing but read it for the next couple/few days. Just out of curiosity, about how many pages long is it?

Just finished.

Oh my goodness.

I need to think about it a little first, but then I'll post again. I really enjoyed it though.

I broke down and bought it today and am nearing page 100. Very gripping so far, with no punches pulled. We'll definitely have to start a clearly labeled thread for spoiler containing discussion...

Finished it this morning, and got 2 hours of sleep as a result.

It's my favorite book of the 7 now.

ROCK!

OK, finished. Good stuff! Too bad there will never be any more, but such is the way with series.
