One of my favorite books or all time. Douglas Coupland is amazing. Check out Mircoserfs too.

A nerdcore friend of mine lent me this to read. It is amazing, but gets a little unreal and out of its depth towards the end, with the globe interface thing.
I actually think his idea in the book about secretly autistic people needing hug-machines may be true. Call me crazy.

I picked this up in an airport right before a very long flight. I thought it was a fun, quick read. I've not read any other Douglas Copeland. I'm not sure I could read a lot of books in that style.

Yeah, I found him quite cynical, and sometimes it dragged. But generally, there were enough plot gimmicks to keep me hooked.

After reading Microserfs, I wrote Douglas Coupland a letter. Among other things that some of you who have both read the book and know me would be able to guess, I mentioned in the letter that Boeing Surplus isn't open on Mondays, as he had characters going there on a Monday. I never heard back from him.

Two years later, I was shutting down my CompuServe account, and I looked through my email - there wasn't much - but there was an email from Douglas written one full year later responding to my letter. Of course, I wrote him back, pretty much one year after he wrote me.

Never heard from him again.
