National Novel Writing Month 2008

Post by JonPorobil »

My wife is doing it again this year (third attempt, but she's never actually hit that 50,000 word mark), and she's trying to convince me to join in this year. I've always been a writer, but I've never been fond of the whole NaNoWriMo thing, since one of my top five biggest problems with writing is rushing it. Still, I just had an idea that might do with some fast expansion. On the other hand, I want to write it now, not wait for November to start.

Anyone else doing it this year?

Got a novel I started in 1998 that I'm about halfway thru. This would actually be a good way to finish it.

But I probably won't. :P
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style. :D

I like writing stories, but there's no way I'll have time.

I'm doing it - it'll give me a break from that neverending novel thing I've been working on for forever. I've got an idea in mind, so I almost wish it was November already. Thankfully, I'm a better writer than songwriter. :P

NaNoWriMo isn't really about finishing a work you already started.
Nanowrimo FAQs wrote:bringing a half-finished manuscript into NaNoWriMo all but guarantees a miserable month. You'll care about the characters and story too much to write with the gleeful, anything-goes approach that makes NaNoWriMo such a creative rush. Give yourself the gift of a clean slate, and you'll tap into realms of imagination and intuition that are out-of-reach when working on pre-existing manuscripts.

I promised myself I wouldn't say it, so I won't. Good luck all and I hope you all write a lot of words down on paper, or whatever. Image repeated clink sound for as long as you look at this smiley

I'm growing a moustache for Movember. Again. It's like writing a novel. Just less words. More hair.

Alright, fine, I'm doing it.

Just went to an area meet-and-greet with my wife. I guess there's no turning back now. Just miserable failure.

If you add a chapter about Song Fight, could you please make me a little taller? I always wanted to be taller. Oh, and if you find yourselves needing some extra words to meet the quota, I wouldn't mind a huge penis with special powers.
.....just sayin'. :P

Well, Allyson just hit 50,000 words today, or 100% of the goal. She won.

I'm at just shy of 12,500, or 25%. She's ahead by almost a factor of two, and I'm behind by a factor of two.

Not gonna have a novel at the end of the month, but I'm willing to treat this book as an ongoing project until its completion. If anyone would like to see some of what I've written, I'll be happy to share.

So did we have winners this year?

If so, I wanna read 'em. Send them my way.

The co-worker who I root on every year (I keep track of her count and things like that) succeeded for the 2nd year.

I clocked in at just over 15,000 words. Still working on it, because despite all odds, I still like the idea. If you're interested in reading an unfinished work, just PM me.

I did NaNoWriMo, but I only got up to 9000 words. As you can see I don't have much time on my hands! And my book was crappy anyway, I didn't plan it out well enough. next year maybe :) good job for getting to 15k, it's tough writing an entire novel in one month.

You think that your problem was not enough planning, but I'm starting to think that you and I planned too much.

Maybe.

I'm jobless now, so I guess I'll be plowing forward in my novel a little more. Thinking about scrapping the chapter I was working on and starting again from the end of the last chapter.
