How Music Works

Post by inevitableguy »

David Byrne is not only an extremely talented musician, he's also a really smart guy. In "How Music Works," he explores the origins of music and how they relate to the venues they were designed to accomodate, from outdoor tribal ceremonies through Baroque concert halls to modern digital home recording setups. Along the way, he talks about how the musicians and audiences interact, both in the performance and business aspects of the music world. I highly recommend it.

As I was reading this book, I couldn't help but think that if David Byrne had been born 25 years later, he would have been a Songfighter.
