Big Bang Theory

Post by Billy's Little Trip »

I can't believe that no one here, of all places, has mentioned The Big Bang Theory yet.
It's at the top of my favorite shows right now. Sheldon reminds me of fluffy....well, accept less fluffy, lol.
Sheldon's issues with Will Wheaton are so damn funny. hhwill hhwheaton!

Yeah, I like this show. Sheldon is nothing like me though. I think I'm a lot more like Leonard, which means I'm probably more like Howard.

It just occurred to me that 3 fourths of the crew is actually you, fluff. It would be a "whole" if you had a little Indian in you.

Somebody at my Asperger's Support Group yesterday mentioned that one of the characters in the show is now identified as having Asperger's, so I guess I'll have to go back and start watching this... I see netflix has the old seasons available on DVDs but not for instant play... and it doesn't look like Hulu / CBS has episodes online, so... maybe not... oh, well...

We just watched all three seasons of this show recently, and loved it. The actor that plays Sheldon just won an Emmy. I saw him on Letterman once and he and Dave actually had a pretty funny rapport. Evil Wil Wheaton is hilarious.

I don't know if there's any official word on Sheldon being Asperger, but I know that in the past the writers said they didn't specifically set out to make an Asperger character, they just wanted Sheldon to be "Sheldon-y." The fact that "Sheldon-y" just happens to be a spot-on set of Asperger characteristics was just a coincidence, or maybe they were modeling him after a bunch of nerds that, unknown to the writer, were Asperger.

In any case, yes, he is quite spot-on.

As with everything else on TV, WIkipedia has a pretty detailed article.

I would guess Sheldon is the one with Asperger's, if it's true. I'm not basing that on his character, although Sheldon Cooper does seem to posses Asperger's characteristics. I saw him on some talk show, Bonny Hunt I think, and his smiles seemed forced and he seemed very introverted to me. But he was very polite and matter of fact with each question.

Also, for those that watched the Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog web series. I still can't get the character "Moist" out of my head every time I see Howard, lol. It's like they told him to just play the Moist character, but a tad dryer.

My brother loves this show. But my brother is retarded. Not literally - just "literally".

I have watched it. It is not awful. That is about the best I can say about it. It is better than "Everyone Loves Raymond".

Why don't Seppos make shows like "Get Smart" or "F-Troop" anymore? That was quality gear.

Yeah, personally I got kind of bored with the show towards the end of the previous season, and I just stopped watching it altogether after the season premiere. Season 3 was (mostly) brilliant. Season 4 started out with a half-hour-long masturbation-gone-wrong joke.

And this is bad, how?

If you didn't see last weeks episode with them going to the special screening of the Raiders of the Lost Ark with 21 seconds of never before seen footage, with guest start, Will hhWheaton, go check it out on hulu. It was a good one. A few highlights. Pee in a bag, Sheldon's rage for Will Wheaton compounding, Penny getting it on with Blossom, grand theft film, just to get you started. :D

BBT isn't on Hulu, and cbs.com only shows clips. That's the other thing that killed the show for me - I don't have a DVR anymore since I switched to Netflix + Hulu for everything and the creators' refusal to make it available on the very services that their own characters would probably use to get all their TV means I'd have to actually watch it when it airs, and that's just silly.

I guess you can just wait for the season DVD and stream it on netflix. And you're right, they are alienating their nerd audience by not making it nerd friendly. That seems like they are cutting their own throats. I bet Howard in real life has brought this up to them. Niel Patrick Harris would never allow that.

...I'm just speculating of course.

yeah, last time wil was on i had to watch it on some site of unknown legality. it's really dumb of them. i'd at least see some ads if they showed it themselves, but instead....

i didn't think this one was as good as the last one or the first one with wil.

Update: 11/11/2010
It needs to be said! Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) is the best addition to this show that could ever happen. I haven't seen her much since Blossom, just here and there, but this is her comeback role.

That is all, carry on.

I dunno, finally got around to watching an episode of this, umm, Thursday night, I guess. Can't say I was wildly impressed, that I'd bother following it if it was on hulu.

However, I do agree that it is better than Everybody Loves Raymond. One of my least favorite shows ever, because the main joke of ELR was how the wife was smarter than the husband, and gave him a hard time about it all the time. If I want to watch that, I'll just turn off the TV entirely...

That is all...

Charles, if you have Netflix, I recommend watching the first few seasons. They're pretty good. This is Season 4, and from what I've seen it looks like they've completely shifted the focus of the show away from "gentle appreciative in-jokey mocking" to "outright nerd ridicule" (although that kind of started in season 3). Maybe they decided the show was too smart or something. Who knows.

So you think they are dumbing it down?

I will say I liked it better when each week they were doing things "together" as "guy" friends. Like camping and watching the sky for a rare event, etc. I'd like to see the writers bring more of that stuff around. The addition of the girls should be a good thing for the general fans of this show. It shows that nerd guys CAN get with girls. Most nerdy guys I know seem to have a real complex about that. So it "seems" like a good move for the shows direction. But this show started as a group of nerdy scientist guy friends and they shouldn't drift too far from that. But maybe the numbers showed that the female audience wasn't watching and they wanted to get the girls watching and feel more included. I have noticed that most women I know that has seen BBT say, eh, it's ok. They'd rather watch Glee, lol.

My fear for the future of this show will be a new version of "Friends" but with nerds. I will stop watching at that point.
