Sonic Highways

Post by Niveous »

I just finished watching the 8-part documentary Sonic Highways. It's the tale of the Foo Fighters writing their newest album by being inspired by whatever city they were in. It also gave great profiles of the history of the music scenes in those cities, as well as some of the iconic studios found there. It covered Chicago, Washington D.C./Arlington, Nashville, Austin, Los Angeles/Joshua Tree, New Orleans, Seattle and New York City. It's well worth checking out.

This series is really good. However, only the lyrics are inspired by the cities. They had all the music ready to go, tracked each song in a week while Dave did interviews and then at the end he would write the lyrics based on those interviews. I'm not sure if the vocal melodies were already in place or not.
