Stepping up to the platform

Post by Tyler Zahnke »

Hello, everybody! It's singer/songwriter/looper/composer Tyler Zahnke! You may have heard me on the Song Fight episodes Starting a Witch Hunt (February 2013), Dodged a Bullet (February 2013), and This Week We'll See (May 2013). I have been into music all my life, and I wrote pieces back in 2007, if not before. I've recorded song parodies, and I've done covers, though I've never recorded any. I am an interactive fiction game writer as well as story-writer. I listen to Imogen Heap, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Jim of Seattle, and many others. Okay, I didn't need to say Jim of Seattle; usually I listen to the whole fight, but one time I did go to Jim's SF page and download all his stuff. Song Fight is something I see as a web series (since there's no video, it's a web radio series) that has run over 680 episodes, some of them back to back (when they had multiple titles). For all this time, I did Song Fight and never joined the forum. I finally chose to join the forum, because I want to be a songfighter in every way; some sidefights you need the forum for. The only reason I didn't do Nur Ein months ago was because I missed it by ... hours. Shoot! So I did Song Fight again. But I plan to be a happy musician in the Song Fight community.

Welcome to the Songfight forum! Please post awesome! (Had to change that up since you're already in the fights).
What are you using for looping? I have a JamMan with the extra memory added.

I don't use looping devices like Jam Man or Echoplex; when I said I looped, I was just referring to repetition in Audacity or whatever audio editor I happen to be using. I sometimes will use loops made in my audio editor as the basis for a multitrack recording.

Ah, I figured since you mentioned that and Imogen Heap you meant live-looping. She does it too.

I actually am a live looping fan; I'm a member of the Looper's Delight forum, which is mostly live looping. But I just never decided to buy live looping pedals or any of that stuff, though I am trying to become as knowledgeable as most live loopers about the scene. I lump all looping together; both live and studio looping have great sounds.
