The Johnny Cashpoint Band: This is my pick, but I gotta admit, only by a nose. I love the squealing guitar, and the way the two vocals kind of come in and out against each other. Wages has done a good j$ impression, really getting into that wobbly stilted j$ style. BLT is really wailing away in the middle ground there, too.

u n c l e j i m: I like this, and I would like it a lot more if the beat was worked on a little bit, and the main vocals improved somewhat. You used a police siren too? Was that a requirement for this song title or something? Siren fight?

tJCB – The lyric is a re-telling of the Walt Disney film transposed to South London gang-land. I am pretty pleased with how it came out, although I am conscious that it might come across a little po-faced. Musically BLT brought some great guitar to this, and although when I wrote the song I imagined this vocally would be of a more spoken-word thing, what Phil did gives it a character all of its own which is pleasing on the ear, I believe.

Unclej i m - nice stabby groove. Good drums too although at times a little boomy. Recording set-up? Like the vocal too – especially the ‘singing down the phone’ backing vox – mixed in really well. By 1.30 when the build comes I want a change-up not a swell. Nice harmonies. Weird I am enjoying this a lot, it’s really well done and performed, but I am also slightly bored by 2.30. Even if you’d done a bluesy thing, with the same riff, I would have appreciated a change. One chord songs are so hard to pull off. You almost do and I would definitely listen again but there is a certain creeping ennui that threatens to de-rail all your hard work.

I like ‘em both! One de facto and the other with reservations. Possibly Uncle j I m shades it, I am not currently sure.

Bambi reviews:

Johnny Cashpoint Band: J$, BLT & Wages on one song. Holy crap. The opening 5 seconds are great. I love that sound. This song just gets bigger and bigger. By the end, I feel almost stifled by all the sounds. It starts off as this weird 80's-ish rock ballad. Then the guitars turn up and the drums really kick in. Then it's like everything in the mix gets multiplied by the second power. I'm thankful for the bridge because it pulls back some but it's just a set-up, so that it can come back even bigger. Then the sirens again. Crazy.

u n c l e j i m & Conrad McQueen: More sirens. Two bands without knowledge of each other, take the same title "Bambi" and create songs cut from the same cloth. This song has a great thumping groove to it. The vocal harmonies work well. This is a very well done song.

Damn it, I'm split. I think u n c l e j i m and CMQ may eek out the win.
