Seriously, this could be it. If I choose the name Foot In Mouth Disease, that'll be it for my Reïst account here - I'll create a new one and stick with it.
If you need an idea of where I'm going with it, here's the dumpy little html site I set up.

This might be a good name fr a different kind of band - but I don't think it suits your music well. IT sounds more like it would go with irreverence and clowning around while rocking - that doesn't seem like you to me.

I think some people just aren't meant to have band names.

I like Umm better. You should stick to that.

This would be a great thread to just, y'know, bump every month or so. Just for the heck of it.

Well, I suppose if you really seriously want to embody either what Ross said (clowning) or the whole insecurity and awkwardness and angst thing, it's a great band name.

Well, sure. My point was supposed to be that if you make such a strong commitment to that kind of mood, you apparently want to keep that kind of mood around for a long time, or don't want to keep your band name for very long. If either is true, well, don't let me stop you.

For me, Reist, with the umlaut which I don't know how to get, is by far a better name. It's interesting, implying something metally and curious, foreign exotic, a 'how do you pronounce that' element, one syllable.

Foot In Mouth Disease is cute, but a one-time-only gag and quite likely to become passe/obscure with the passing months and years. It also puts a pressure on you to be funnier than you have been so far

That said, I did see two brilliant pub quiz team names recently - wine flu, and my personal favourite Quizteama Aguilera. Both of them fail my test as described above, so what do I know? Also i go by the name of Johnny Cashpoint, do you really want my opinion?

Ooooh, I remembered what i actually want to say. Think of all the huge bands, The Beatles, the Pixies, Nirvana, anyone ... they all have TERRIBLE names that don't describe the music they are playing. The trick, I think, is that if your music is good enough, you inhabit the name you have chosen, so that when people see it, they don't think about what it means, just that it's a mental shortcut to the band's music.

I like it. With that said, I think I'll take hold of this band name. It's pretty easy to remember, not entirely gimmicky and doesn't sound like it's trying too hard. If (as you put it) it becomes a mental shortcut to my music, I'll consider this a success. Thanks, guys.
