Well that's true, and I didn't say that the money should have been spent on a bridge in Alaska, but it's not like the New York Times was lobbying for levee reinforcement then. People are describing this as though anyone actually said "So Alaska really needs this bridge, so we'll give them most of New Orleans' levee money." Both proposals were among a gajillion projects before congress, and they had to decide. They chose wrongly, but too many editorialists are using my city's downfall to lobby against the wrong problems. Blame the idiots who kept the Red Cross out. Blame the dumbass asleep as his post when those buses needed to be deployed. But Hurricane Katrina and its effects on New Orleans are no more Congress' fault than your own.
