I just discovered my Washburn WB-66 bass is damaged, probably irreparably. This model has a pretty long neck. At some point it must have fallen over or got whacked, because there is a huge crack at the back of the second fret, almost right across the width, stopping just shy of the fretboard. I don't remember this happening. I just picked it up to play the other day and there it was.

Auugh.

I'll take it in to my favourite guitar technician for advice, but it looks pretty hopeless. A new neck would probably set me back the original purchase price (I bought it second-hand). If I weren't recently unemployed, I might have thought about it.

Maybe I'll salvage the hardware, buy a stock Fender-style neck, and build a custom body. Or just hide it from my sight until I get another job.

Nah, they can fix anything these days. Save it for later. I've linked to this guy before, I used to have him do work on my guitars. Check out the repairs that 'they' can pull off nowadays: http://www.diburro.com/

I took it in to my favourite guitar repair guy -- he reset the neck on my '65 Hofner 500/1, did a fine job -- and he said this is pretty common. The estimate was $300 CDN. Not too bad, so I'll set it aside until I land another job.

I assumed The Shamrock Hotel in Toowoomba must be a made up location... boy was I wrong... here's what people are saying:

"Inconsistent Service"
"Simply bad"
"Disgusting"
"Bad Houskeeping"
"Not a pleasant experience"
