I was at the Shammy at 3am on Sun morning singing karaoke. ANd here is what the latest review on Trip Advisor says:
“What a death trap” - What a joke this is of the quality you would except in a third world country where do I start….

I quite like the place.

So what's your favorite song with "My Life" in the title?

My favorite is "In My Life" by The Beatles, although Billy Joel's "My Life" is certainly a closer lexical match.

Animal's "It's My Life" by far. Apparently they didn't write it, but it was written specifically for them. Love the line: "I'm gonna ride, the serpent"... Although I'm not quite sure what it means. Been trying to record a cover of it with limited success.

On the flip side... Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" is the worst I can think of.

What about the Talk Talk one "It's My Life" also covered by No Doubt? I like that one a lot.

We should have a "my life"-themed sidefight.

I'm actually kinda warming up to this idea - simply cover a song whose title contains "My Life."

So, I was playing my guitar yesterday and when I was done, I leaned it up against the side of the fireplace, too lazy to take it back upstairs. This morning the cat was sitting on the mantle and threw up on the guitar. I don't like changing strings and now my guitar smells funny.

That is an awesome story. I was expecting it to end with your guitar in flames, or otherwise damaged by proximity to a fire. The cat puke was an unexpected twist. A+

Yesterday I had to give a talk at work because my boss was out of town and he asked me to fill in. His slides were titled as "A Primer". I used to have an English (the sort who would be offended to be called "British") coworker who insisted the proper pronunciation of "primer" was with a short I. It got me curious: was this the correct pronunciation? Was it just a difference between American and British English?

So I googled it, and I found this amazing thread. (Spoiler: it turns out to be exactly the other way around. The short-I pronunciation is an American regional variation.) But anyway, a reply in the thread caught my eye with this amazing sentence: "I think the 'primmer' pronunciation is a shibboleth for orthoepic pedants."

Unfamiliar with the word "orthoepic" and unsure of its pronunciation, I looked it up. I am still not sure I am saying it correctly.

That's weird. I always assumed the short i was British. I never heard it myself until I was listening to the audiobook of Neal Stephenson's "Diamond Age" and I seem to recall that part being read by a British woman, but I could be wrong because it was years ago. Growing up it was always pronounced "prymer" no matter the meaning.

You guys are weird. I've never even heard "primmer" in my entire life until now... and I don't like it one bit!
