I'm drinking coffee now. With oat milk! I've never had oat milk at a coffeeshop before. It's pouring down rain here and I stopped at a vintage flea market with 27(!) different vendors at this local coffeeshop/venue place. Tempted by the cheetah print jumpsuit and snakeskin cowboy boots, but I really have to stop buying clothes just because they're funny.

After this I'm off to pick up some supplies I forgot for an outfit I'm making to wear to a friend's wedding, and then to a horror movie double feature at a friend's house tonight (Friday the 13th and Creepshow)

(I wish there was an easier way to listen to Song Fight songs in the car for when I'm out and about running errands--seems to always choke if I try to stream them from the site in the car, even though Spotify works fine, I have to be on wifi. I'm not organized enough to download the songs every week and actually put them on my phone so don't you dare suggest I should be prepared and think ahead.)

I just went for a run. All my dog has to do to keep up with me is put on a light jog. He is a greyhound, but Jaysus, way to demoralise me Tadhg.
How do you pronounce his name?

I'm guessing it's Irish, but it reminds me of tahdig (the crunchy Persian rice)

There's a podcast feed you can subscribe to for exactly this reason.

What?! TIL. Thanks! I will try it once I leave this den of coffee and vintage clothes.

Oh hm, does that keep playing even when the screen goes to sleep? That seems to be what stops playback for me with the Jukebox these days. :/

I went to a free music festival in Golden Gate Park today and was there all day. It was SOOO good. We've gone many times, in the 19 years it's been running. Definitely a big highlight of the year for me. Today we saw a very odd mix of bands: The Budos Band (sort of like afrobeat blended with early Black Sabbath), Hayes Carll (pretty straightforward country/american singer songwriter stuff), Robert Earl Keen (ditto), and The New Pornographers (indie rock). The Budos Band crushed it, and it was very cool to hear their epic sound in an epic environment. The New Pornographers were also freaking great and played a really nice selection of tunes, including one or two I'd never seen them play before.

Plus we got to listen to sets happening on another nearby stage: Iron & Wine and Calexico (who we're also seeing on their own tomorrow night!!!), Tank and the Bangas (didn't do it for us), and Robert Plant. I was expecting Robert Plant to be playing recent stuff with maybe 1-2 Led Zeppelin or earlier solo songs but it was the other way around and it was amazing. Total legend.

You use the podcast feed to download the songs to your media player of choice automatically, and then it's up to your device to behave properly. I dunno what phone owl uses but the iOS Podcasts app will just treat each song as a separate "episode" and it'll play them one after another.

I got a little "Musician of the Day" shoutout on Instagram today! And Song Fight is mentioned, although a bunch of the factual details aren't quite right (this photo was taken a few months ago, before Song Fight Live in Madison, so I was attempting to promote it at an open mic, which is where I met the guy who does this little musician profile series). Inconsequential and fleeting, but kind of a nice surprise today since I'd totally forgotten about this in the meantime.

How's your week going so far?

Nice one, owl!

I'm avoiding a meeting with the PM, because the sun is shining and I am behind on some stuff.

Oh shit we’re only supposed to go if we win?! Sorry about that!

Seriously though that’s cool.

Because it’s early and I’m still tired, I totally read this as Prime Minister. I’d avoid any meetings with that dickhead too.

I read it that way too. It's still early and I'm still tired so I'm just going to stick with that reading I think.

I'm quite enjoying the fact that we're currently in the brief window of time where I'm driving to work during the sunrise, and it's really pretty. Although I'm obviously aware that this is leading into the part of the year where I'm driving to work in the dark which is slightly less appealing.

I don’t know what’s happening in the UK this year, but Ireland has dropped Daylight Savings time now due to the EU directive. So we’re not changing back and I’m very upset. I love the EU and all, but I’m still not used to the dark winters and now even more so...

I'm not sure anyone knows! Abject chaos, mostly.

But in terms of daylight saving, the clocks are changing this weekend so I guess I will have a little more morning light before Darkness Falls.

My dog just walked into the bedroom, had a drink of water, booped the HomePod (he’s a greyhound, aka tall) and turned on some music. Luckily, he’s not yet figured out how to use this to get attention in the middle of the night.

At least you don't have an African Grey parrot!

It rained dirty water this morning, and I drove to work watching the strands of mud and grit slide away

I am drinking coffee

I listened back to my Long Story Short and it reminded me of my beach holiday and I wish I was there again walking on the wild windy beach watching the tide pull the waves up high

But there are too many voices here, cutting through the reverie and bouncing off the purple wall, and I'm back to work

I went for a jog yesterday and found several different varieties of mushrooms. I wound up cooking dinner with one of the kinds they call "puffballs" after slicing them really thin, browning them slightly, and then using them as a substitute pizza crust on which I put a bunch of pizza sauce, sausage, and cheese.

Yum.

Now I am drinking coffee and taking a quick break at work.

Is that safe to do? Aren’t most random mushrooms highly toxic and you have to be absofuckinglutely sure of what you’re eating?
