DRC: Today I am looking for a winter coat. I had this long wool coat that I got (for free) when I was living in NY, but apparently in a fit of space-saving cleanliness I gave it away. I looked everywhere last night and I could not find it.

I gave away a cheap precision type bass one time. Fella I knew needed one and I gave it to him. All wood tone, low E held in place by a screw in the headstock, I miss it much. He eventually got rid of it as well, and also regretted doing so. Why, Jimmy, why?

My brother comes into town today to visit until a couple of days before New Year. My wife will be out of town visiting her folks in Ohio for the duration of my brother's visit. Bad timing, that.

QotD: I've never regretting giving something away, though I have regretted selling stuff from time to time. Certain video games that turned out to be hard to track down again, the occasional book. Nothing too remarkable.

I gave away my first guitar a few months ago. Don't really regret that, since the old girl had seen better days, but it was kind of a sad moment. That's the guitar on every one of my Songfight songs before "Stairway to the Moon". The guy I gave it to insisted on paying, but I wouldn't take his money. I did a mitzvah that day.

QotD: Paco, I did the same thing! I gave a cheap P-bass to someone who wanted to learn to play. I didn't regret it, but a couple of years later he had upgraded to a better bass and gave it back to me. I swapped out the cheap pickups, strung it with the top 4 strings of a 5 string set, and now it's my go-to bass.

I'm with Eric. I don't really regret anything I've given away, but I've had regret about stuff I sold off. Not too much, though. If I had to go back in time and start over, I'd end up with pretty much what I have now, just less of it. Well, if I could REALLY go back in time I'd buy up all the cheap 60's Jazzmasters I could get my hands on in the 90's and sell them on Ebay right about now.

I kind of regret giving away my old Commodore 64 and its software to a friend of mine who expressed interest in using it to teach his kids computer stuff, not because I wanted it but because apparently all he did was hoard it away in storage forever and then eventually tossed it.

Other than that there's several things I've lent to people who have then forgotten they were mine or lost/broke them or whatever, but generally those are just things (although one of them was a book which a friend gave me as a gift, so I feel a bit more bad about that).

The parents are moving to Nashville so I'm packing up my old bedroom at the moment. I came across a stash of papers that I had written Songfight lyrics on. Hoo boy. Thank god I didn't end up recording most of them. Anyway, it made me think of SF so I headed over here to see what the goings on were. I have a fortnight in Nashville after the move before I head back to school in Boston, so I think I'll unpack all the music goodies and bust out a SF song in January. Whee.

So I went over to my friend's house to see if she had any jackets I could borrow, and I open her closet and pull out a jacket and say "Yeah, my jacket is alot like this one... Wait... This IS my jacket."

Apparently, we had been filming a little thing at her house this summer, and I brought the jacket over but then never took it away. She thought it was her roommate's and stuck in the closet, where it has been this whole time.

Interestingly enough, the thing we were filming was a contest to make a fake trailer for sequel to a film which needs no sequel (in a genre which was assigned to your team). We were assigned "Family Film" and made a sequel to "It's a Wonderful Life", which (natch) takes place on Christmas Eve.
