Hey everyone,
Life has been so busy. I'm gearing up for a madcap February full of FAWM goodness and I'm still working on that project for my kids and finishing up my SF200 and the Niveous-penned Concept Album. So much stuff, so little time.....
QotD: Are you happy with the scope of your audience?
Are you satisfied with how many people have had a chance to hear your music or do you wish you could expand your audience?

QotD: I'm not sure who my audience is. It's just you lot, I think. So, thanks for listening!
My wish would be that more people enjoyed the 'sensitive singer songwriter in a coffeeshop' genre. In terms of popularity though, it's right up there with polka, dirges, and Jinglecats. (edit: I probably don't like listening to as much as I enjoy playing in that genre, it sure is cathartic! I love it when I can write a song, and immediately feel like I've gotten a big weight off my chest.)

Hey! Don't knock the polka dirge! Tho' they're more fun if you can get the audience to participate... hip hip...
QOTD: Nope. Tho' to receive, one has to give, and I've been pretty lax of late on the production front.

I couldn't agree with you more. It's a very minimal genre but it can be very strong, honest, heartfelt music. It's music at its simplest but there's so much to be found in it.Henrietta wrote:My wish would be that more people enjoyed the 'sensitive singer songwriter in a coffeeshop' genre. I'm pretty happy with the scope of my audience. Don't know that I'm happy for them, though. Of course, my audience consists primarily of the good folks here at SF!. I've never been much of a "Hey, look at me" kind of guy, but can't resist the title challenge and all that. Big hug!

QotD: I think I want to get my product a little more up to snuff before I expand my audience all that much. But it'll come. I'm also planning to try and tackle FAWM for the first time this year. It's SF! that has me geared up. So there's some audience expansion right there.
Henrietta, if you can sound nearly as good live as you do here, I'm thinking you could expand the audience genre of your choice all by yourself. You have a great voice. I take notice of everything you post up here.Henrietta wrote:My wish would be that more people enjoyed the 'sensitive singer songwriter in a coffeeshop' genre. Re: Jan 22, 2009
Wow, thanks! Yeah, here at SF we have the advantage of multitracking and drum samples which helps fill out the finished product and make it more musically interesting. The musicality of my SF entries don't always translate at open mic night. I've never been to a SFLive, but I imagine folks have a similar dilemma.
I have a couple ideas for sidefights, that are related to the idea of stripped down solo vs. multitracking:
"G+G Fight" where the Guys/Gals are allowed only one vocal track and one Guitar track. Each track must be recorded in one whole take. It doesn't have to be the first take, but two takes can't be spliced together or else that's cheating.
"Arrangement Fight" where everybody gets a G+G track and has to add accompaniment, percussion etc. The experiment being how many musical variation can stem from the same vocal melody, guitar line, and basic rhythm.

Re: Jan 22, 2009
DRC: Today is the day that me and my friend Rich are doing a SF song together. Last night we got drums and bass done on FL. And tonight he's gonna lay down his guitar track and I'll be doing the vocals. It'll be my first collab since the last song me and Posyden did as Destruction Enterprise. Seeing as my track record with DE was pretty sweet I'm really looking forward to this.
QotD: I'm always trying to find ways to expand my audience. I did a pretty good job of promoting my 2nd soundclick album as I had like 2k listens in a month period after it was released. I put out my 1st physical CD "Fluffy Lives" last month and sold a few copies locally. Of course I have SF which is my most constrant audience (thank you!) and I'm VERY close to uploading my 3rd soundclick album. Just gotta dig through all the music I have and figure out the best 10-12 songs I got.

Re: Jan 22, 2009
For the record, I like most of the Quimby songs here on Song Fight, so I guess that makes me part of The Audience, too?
QotD: so-so. It's awesome how I regularly find people on IRC who say they like (or even love ) some of my songs. The remainder of the folks hanging out there might be less happy about the relent- and shameless self-advertising but nobody has actually complained. On the other hand, well, I won't lie and say that I would mind having my very own five minutes of internet fame, but what I'm really after is actually something much more valuable: lots of money. Err, I mean the good feeling that my songs inspired or entertained someone else. The more, the merrier!
I'm still working on my very own website dedicated to music. I'm not really going to put any effort into self-promotion until that gets finished.

If I were working on a Love Me A Little Bit More, then I'm sure it would work really well in this context. But I'm still doing my GOM so it will have to wait another day. But I like this idea. Kind of like what the Beatles did with Free As A Bird and Real Love. Without one of us getting shot, of course.Henrietta wrote:Nice!!Niveous wrote: The latter idea was suggested recently: http://www.songfight.net/forums/viewtop ... =14&t=6038

Oooh, Paco, what did you get that took you 20 years to find? As one gear addict to another, I'm dying to know.Paco Del Stinko wrote:Almost time to take my guitar family portrait. QotD: It might be fun to expand, get an album out there and see how it does. But it doesn't matter to me as much as it used to, because Songfight is the best audience anyone could ask for. Where else are you guaranteed multiple reviews (many of them helpful) of each and every song you release? Nowhere, that's where. It's all downhill from here!
I'd be game for either of Henrietta's sidefights.

I'd like it if more Internet nerds would throw themselves at me and be all into my music but I suppose I need to start making decent music that people actually like in order for that to happen. I guess I have basically the audience I deserve.

Re: Jan 22, 2009
I don't have it yet, I won it on the Bay. But it is a guitar by Time of Vermont, 1984. I played one once about 20 years ago, having only seen them in magazines for several years prior. Nicest guitar I ever played. Well, I couldn't afford one then, or for many years after, and then they went out of business. They don't come around often and there's little info out there about them as well, so after looking less than obsessively, I finally got this one Thursday morning. I'll post pics and stats when it arrives, but it's most likely the last guitar that I'll ever buy. Psyched!Teplin wrote:Oooh, Paco, what did you get that took you 20 years to find?
