4/1/15 Frank Zappa
Tonight I heard the entirety of Joe's Garage for the first time. And I noticed nobody has posted a topic for today.
So, what's your favorite Frank Zappa song?

Zappa!
Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention is my all time favorite band. So many songs!
Favorites: Cheepnis, Enchida's Arf of You, Sofa, Watermelon in Easter Hay, Inca Roads, Broken Hearts are for Assholes, Who Needs the Peace Corp?, The Mother People, The Jazz Discharge Party Hats, Pygmie Twilight.
He's got 80 plus albums. I once made a "Best of Zappa" collection for a friend. It took seven 90 minute tapes, and I still felt bad about leaving some things off.
Joe's Garage is one of the most beautiful and complex and wonderful pieces of music, don't let the low brow humor (which is often hilarious) fool you, the music is sublime!

Oh God, I love Zappa. Picking just one is pretty damned hard. "Inca Roads" mentioned by Glenny above is certainly one of my favorites... But, I'll go with "Billy the Mountain"...
I'll tell you what song is *not* my favorite. "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow". But for some reason non-Zappa fans seem to find and latch onto that one. So annoying!

Re: 4/1/15 Frank Zappa
I have a compilation CD with "Dancin' Fool" on it, and I always liked that one. Dr. Demento apparently loved it too! I remember one that was called Bobby Brown; I was probably twelve when I heard that, and I didn't even know who Zappa was! Last year I finally got two live albums. The first one I got is mostly his crazy lyrics stuff and was recorded in 1979. The second one I got has more instrumental stuff and was recorded in 1973. But despite me having these two albums, I like Bobby Brown the best; well, at least I found a version of Dancin' Fool on the 1979 release.

Somehow I never got around to Zappa. What a philistine, right? My more musically sophisticated friends (both of them) insist that I would love him. Downloading torrent now...

Hah, that is a tough one. Baby Snakes, Elvis Has Just Left the Building, Harder than your Husband, Peaches en Regalia, You Are What You Is, his covers of Purple Haze, Sunshine of Your Love, and Ring of Fire. But Baby Snakes is the one I find myself singing most often.

Oh, so it was. Someday I'll actually catch up on sleep.Niveous wrote:3/31 was Prince. This will be 4/1.fluffy wrote:Tonight I heard the entirety of Joe's Garage for the first time. And I noticed nobody has posted a topic for today.
So, what's your favorite Frank Zappa song?
Probably because it's funny and memorable, just like Valley Girl (which is another non-fan favorite). I don't mind either of those.josh wrote:I'll tell you what song is *not* my favorite. My favorite is a tossup between "Cosmik Debris" and "I Am The Slime." I also have a soft spot for "Peaches En Regalia."

Re: 4/1/15 Frank Zappa
After I posted my pick of Cosmik Debris, I had a hankerin' to hear it. A quick google turned up a live performance that I've never seen. I'm going to post it now because listening to Zappa and watching a song like Cosmik Debris actually performed live is the epitome of amazeballz!
