I love Lydian, which would be my first instinct. Mixolydian is all over the place too.
I've done a FAWM song in Phrygian ("Fireflies" Niveous wrote lyrics for that).

So the glaring absent modes are Locrian and Dorian.

What do you want to hear? I'm leaning towards Locrian, it's a bit weirder sounding to me, therefore fun.

EDIT: I guess YYZ is in Locrian, that song is 2nd nature to me. What do you think? Dorian? You name the mode, I'll do it.
Well, Locrian tends to sound... um, ugly to me. YYZ is cool though. It's just harder to make it sound good. I like Dorian, it has that medieval sound to it. So, if you're asking me I'm leaning towards Dorian, but choose whatever you like. I'm intrigued by Lydian, too. Never wrote a modal composition myself up to now, but I'll certainly try.

EDIT: if you manage to do a cool song in Locrian though - kudos to you :)

Why limit yourselves to the seven church modes?

I'll just leave this here.

Thanks for your review Glenny. On one hand I am sad to have been eliminated, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thrilled to have beaten Niveous.

I can never get a good Lydian or Locrian progression. It always pulls me to something else.
But that's just modes of the major scale. So many fun scales out there, with modes that can be derived from them. And then there's Arabic, Indian, and Balinese music which aren't 12 tone, and microtonal music like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Partch

BTW here's another three-part song that is only 2:17, off one of the greatest albums ever made - the Beach Boys' 1967 Smiley Smile. (Yes, I'm being serious.)

I'd like to see a challenge where the object is to avoid the most obvious interpretation of the challenge.

I also want at least one vague challenge with a lot of possibility. Like: "Toilet." There could be so much fun with a challenge like that.

I'm ok with a vague or surreal challenge. I'm not so ok with "toilet" specifically. I think I've written enough music that meets that challenge already

I think Round Zero should be " Bring your H game"
round one "Bring your G game"
R2 " Bring your F game"
R3 "E game"
R4 D-game
R5 - C Game
R6 B game
R7 A game

"Song must be in the key of H."
