You can grab the latest episode at http://podcast.songlander.com

iTunes will take a while to update, but you can subscribe either there (https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the ... 99483?mt=2) or from the RSS feed (http://podcast.songlander.com/feed.xml) in your podcast app.

I tried to get it a bit tighter and focused. Can't do much about our personalities. Feedback is welcome!

Thanks for continuing to do these, Mike & Ben. I appreciate your desire to add something to the community. That's awesome.

About LW/RG:
Our chimey sound isn't handbells or keys, it's an omnichord. For those who may never have heard of it, it's like an electronic autoharp. It's Brookes' primary instrument. It's got buttons to choose different chords (majors, minors and sevenths) but to trigger them, there is a strumplate.

re: Omnichord - the specific model I'm playing on "After You" is Om-300 which is my personal favorite. The sounds are very different from one model to the next - the OM-36 and -84 are very fuzzy tones, while the 100 and up sound much clearer due to the better quality samples used. On "After You" I used the "Celeste" voice which is imitating an instrument called Celeste - the sound of which is all over songs from the 50's and up. You may recognize it from Buddy Holly's "Everyday", that "ding ding ding" sound carrying the melody is a Celeste.

also FYI on "Fingers Crossed" I played the Q-Chord, which is the current model made by Suzuki. They quit making Omnichords in the late 90's but the Q-chord is like the Omni's big brother. It has some neat additional features, like being able to "play" sound effects in place of notes.

Omnichord is very cool. Is it hard to play a melodic part on it? How much control do you have?
Yes, you've totally hijacked this thread :)

Back to the podcast: I just finished listening to the whole thing, start to finish. The pacing was very tight. It's fun to hear you interact with each other and the songs. I was going to suggest that Mike not say "This is great!" or "I really like this one!" before the song starts. I realized Mike's reaction almost caused Ben to look for reasons not to like it. Ben - I know you wanted to take notes, but it cramped your flow a bit. I wonder if there's a way that will let you record the info, without slowing you down. A shorthand, or a series of boxes for things you find really important... ?

Okay just because it has come up in both of the podcasts...

The name Jerkatorium comes from this part of the Simpson's "Smoke On The Daughter" episode (season 19, episode 15):

I also discuss the Jerkatorium name a bit in the Jerkatorium blog. If Ben's censored interpretation was that Jerkatorium meant, um, 'man cave', then I guess that's as good an interpretation as any.

I really enjoy the podcasts. They are entertaining and informative - among other things, they help illustrate the wild differences in scoring that we see each round (like the 17-point variations in Round 1 that iVeg pointed out elsewhere on the boards).

I read that Q-Chord does MIDI out too, so you're not limited to onboard sounds. Cool.

Enjoyed the story on your blog.

RE: Band names: I wanted to start a new real band with a new band name, but all the ones I liked were taken already.

I enjoyed the Sifl and Olly bit before the rankings.
