Side note, the nurein.songlander.com page probably doesn't need to say "Thirteen. Coming April 30, 2018." on it at this point.

Okay, it probably should be asked... what counts as a household item?

My household has guitars and ukuleles and mandolins.
I think they mean, no church organs, no shop tools, and no camping gear.

I enjoy that Niveous is on this side of the fence wondering what they mean, like we always have.

My idea of a household item is something that is reasonably accepted as found and used in a home that is not primarily used to make music with.

My esteemed fellow judges may choose to agree, disagree and/or further opine on the topic. ;)

Actually, I was playing devil's advocate on that one. No one had yet so I figured someone should. What's a Nur Ein round without discourse?

I plan on using scissors, clip machine, etc.
Do these count as household items? Kitchen utensils or vacuum cleaners pretty clearly do, right?

Pink Floyd once had the idea of doing an album entirely from the sound of household objects. Ultimately they scrapped the project, but there are a few demos around. They mainly use rubber bands simulating a bass guitar, and a glass harp (wine glasses rubbed with a wet finger). The latter recordings were later used in Shine On You Crazy Diamond. You can hear the glasses during the long intro chord, mixed with a synth to create a mystical kind of sound.
I figure rubber bands and glass harp don't count as household items in the strict sense. What do the judges think about this?

rubberband Bass sounds really good. WSA-Kids, and Cavedwellers-Average Circus both feature Rubberband Bass.

Actually, Round 4's challenge is "contains a Pink Floyd reference in every verse and chorus".
Yeah, I'm thinking things that aren't really instruments, be creative. Use what you have in your house. Phish used to use vacuum cleaners but it sounded kinda terrible :)

I see they mostly did that in live performances. You could say they suck live.
Any of their avid fans would kill me for this, but I actually prefer their studio work by far. They can even be kind of accessible if they don't let themselves get carried away with their jams.
Speaking of jams, beating on a jar of jam with a spoon totally meets the challenge. It's called a jam session.

I would call myself an avid Phish fan. They are excellent in the studio. The thing that's great about the live shows are the long improvisations and magical found moments. The singing is never as good live. I listen to the studio albums far more than the live albums. However in general I'd rather watch a live in concert video than a music video.

I never saw the vacuum thing as very musical, always just a gag.

I really like Hoist. I've seen them live. But I agree on the vacuum, it's a gag.

Reminder - because of the holiday (And the fact I'll be traveling to MN this weekend) ,
the Listening Party will be delayed until Tuesday night at 9 pm.

Plan your festivities accordingly.

We're in! Our song is about a person imagining futures with his partner and they get steadily more twisted and creepy. A little bit wacky but still on brand for Lucky Witch. Recorded in the rehearsal studio at Rivington Music in NYC.

Our featured guest is Tom's friend Chris, playing a coffee grinder.

James (guest artist) and I walked around looking for anything that might make musical noise. The biggest fail was he crushed a coffee cup - we didn't realize it still had coffee in it. It sprayed all over Rob's chair. So we recorded wiping it up, too. Biggest success was James playing a Yeti thermos with a mini Maglight.
