Well, thanks for letting us play anyway. There are some excellent musicians in this thing and I look forward to seeing how it plays out. Congrats to those moving on. I'm bummed because I'm on a new musical high and I was ready to bring it next week but I guess I'll have to save it for the regular fight. On the bright side, I suddenly have a much free-er weekend and I'll be able to get some sleep :)

Goodbye, jerks: thanks for nothing. I mean that glibly. To quote William Hung: I did my best. I have no regrets.

Wow, we're now in a category with William Hung. Well I guess that's something.

The winner of Round One was Puce. Out of a possible 109 points from the jury, Puce scored 129.

Thing is, I almost believe it, too!
Heh! Yes, that was a typo. Fixed.

Individual judge scores are coming up. I'm fixing the band names to look the same so it's not as easy to tell which judge is which.

ROCK!

Congrats Puce. There may be something to your methods after all. I know you were sweating it there towards the end, but you made a great song.

I scored much better than I thought I would, awesomeness. In fact, I honestly thought I would be misunderstood and knocked out on this round. I promised myself that I won't take any more risks like I did on this song, if I make it to round two. It's nice to be accepted for your art once in a while, even if it's not everyones particular taste.

NUR EIN!

Wow, that was actually kind of scary. I'm really sorry to see anyone go since everyone is trying their best.

Congrats Puce.

I really think you should call the rounds:

Nur Vierundzwanzig (only 24)
Nur Zwanzig (only 20)
Nur Funfzehn (only 15)
Nur Zehn (only 10)
Nur Funf (only 5)
Nur Drei (only 3)

Nur Ein (only 1)

I like that the panel of judges consists of folks with fairly varied tastes. Looking at the rankings per judge there is a fair amount of diversity in who's in the top 5, 10, etc. I think that's going to make this whole process a little less predictable and more interesting, as there will probably not usually be a huge amount of consensus among all the judges.

I agree Lunk. Plus, it's so much better being judged by our peers that are known for their musicianship and experience. No matter what the final out come is, we all know we have been judged fairly.

I am well known for my lack of musicianship and I am judging you with dice. Everyone else on the panel is cool, though, so you're mostly right.

What surprised me this time around was the lack of really crappy songs. It's only round ein and I was already relegating songs that I thought were easily good enough to survive, even if they weren't particularly great. This is a problem that I didn't expect for another round or two. Anyway, I guess those of you who survived need to suck more and I'll have some more detailed comments later when I'm less sober.

I am outraged! How is BoRe not in the top five? I DEMAND A REVOTE! But hey, top ten, we can live with that. Now. Off to make buttons and avatars.

Yes - except Judge 3 is obviously racist against Australians:

Nevermind Sausage Boy - you are the David Hicks of Songfight - unfairly locked away at the bottom of the Nur Ein ladder with a Marine's baton figuratively rammed up your anus. Or maybe the Phar Lap of Songfight - poisoned by those bastard Seppos at the height of your career (...except Phar Lap was acually from New Zealand. And a horse). Or maybe the Les Darcy of Songfight,....or whatever - I hope I can carry things on - doing it for Phar Lap, doing it for Les Darcy, doing it for Hicksy, doing it for the Sausage Boy, and doing it for the green and gold!

No - I was referring quite literally to Pseudonaja textilis.

What you speak of is the "Flaming Edgar". If sent by mail, it would be have to be downgraded to a "Steaming Edgar". In hindsight - since the snake would no doubt be dead by the time it arrived at its destination - you are absolutely correct - a gift-wrapped "Bondi Cigar" would be a far more appropriate gift for Judge 3.

I was really enjoying the layered guitars and post-chorus slide guitar in Puce's entry. Glad that got points. I was expecting Jim Tyrrell's tune to get more brownies, between the old-school rock and alliterative potency. Neatness forever!

Thanks for the kind BoRe words, it was certainly unexpected. :-)
