You're probably gonna need these, because I am bringing the serious mumblecore this round. That was the challenge, right, not enunciating at all?

Now I need to go die. Frankie, I'll listen to your song when I wake up at 8pm.

That was a near-impossible round to judge.

You both rock.

Nice job. Some clever lyrics. I like the bells early on and the guitar in the second verse. Nice touches. Good vox on the pre-chorus. Good mix, of course. You are a worthy adversary, young man!

Not for me. Thankfully I don't have to vote against myself. Curiosity got the best of me, so I listened.

Frankie, you lied when you said you didn't have an "A game". I get the idea that you didn't draw a total blank until the night before the due date. Damn, I need to learn how to play some instruments.

Do the five judges not get to vote at all? Just curious. Seems a shame to not have any input after all the work they've put into this.

Heh. You play a lot of instruments! And well. I just dabble on a whole bunch. You don't even want to know how long it took me to record the violins. And, to be fair, I didn't play the brass or the drums.

Yeah, I had the song written by Friday, which gave me the whole weekend to record and assemble some guests. Having a drummer is huge, especially for this song.

Thanks for the compliments. Don't sell yourself short. So far, it looks like we're neck and neck. :)

I know it's only two tracks (which I'm downloading at this moment), but just a small note, the stream all link doesn't seem to be working, not that it's going to affect me, but may affect others... I'll shut up now!

Wow, I just listened to both of these about 4 or 5 times. They both hit home for me.

Frankie - Instrumentally fabulous and groove'n! Wonderful story of old love losing it's spark, when simple charm is played out and transparent to the person that knows you inside and out.

Puce - Excellent arrangement choices and rocking! Another great story about not taking your significant other for granted and treating her the way she needs and wants it. After just watching Black Snake Moan, this fits right in perfectly.

This is a tough one for me to pick, glad I don't have to.

edit:
Oh damn, I just remembered that we all DO vote on this round.

Frankie for the win.

I preferred more of Puce's entries throughout the contest, but I do believe Frankie brought his A+ game this round.

Awsome work you two, they're on the player for the next 24 hours, then I'm off to Nice with the missus, so I'll PM Mr. Niveous about this time tomorrow...

Good luck to you both, but hey on this form you're both winners!

I think he was talking about his own personal struggle to decide his vote.

I really would've rathered the judges have no vote for the last round. like American Idol, where the judges decide for the first rounds, but then it's in the public's hand. why surrender once again to the will of these fascist judges?

Because it's fascism.

Even if the jury's votes, it will still be 23 votes of the entrants and 5 from the jury. The entrants still really have the final say but the jury who did work very hard (and did a great job) get to have an input.

Plus comparing it to AI makes me feel dirty inside.

I will now use my 600th post to review the final fight of Nur Ein! II

Here’s my thoughts on first listen – typed as the song goes by.

Frankie Big Face – Is this the Yacht Rock side fight? Wow, all cylinders firing. Great arrangement, nice whole-tone electric piano lick getting into the chorus. “hoo hoo” – great. Donald Fagen eat your heart out. Piano solo – nice, but may stretch the song just a bit for me, perfect for the idiom, however. Vocal arrangements and mix are candy for my ears.

Next contestant, please.

Puce – Neat lyrical context – I like the extended metaphor. Fat drums great – neat bells. Kicking in on the chorus is great, the way the guitar slings in. Was the non- optional challenge to feature electric piano this week? Arrangement varied in classic Puce style. “Cat’s got your tongue” – lyrics really good - “Domesticated” I think there are a few issues with the mix, which is rare for you, but I suspect you already wish you had another 4 hours to mix.

Excellent final. I’ll listen more and lodge my vote in time – I urge all of this years Ein-ers to do the same.

Nur Ein!

PS - I also think the judges should not vote on the last round - let the vote go as announced in the original rules.

Fine. Fine. No vote for the jury BUT I give the Jury the power to campaign for the choice that they want to win.
