Currently coming in at 1.27 suckas! Though my 'choruses' currently only last one measure each. Stop signs and all, I think they're pretty much choruses, I don't know what else I would call them.

I've got the song length handled, but damn, the vocals kick in at about 4 seconds. I'm an intro guy and need that to set my mood. So I'm experimenting with ways to form a mood in 4 seconds. At this point, I don't think I can. But some of my coolest FX come when I least expect them, so we'll see what happens as this song builds.

Ok, so I put in the drum loops, recorded the first guitar, recorded the second guitar, recorded the bass, and I just hate it. The lyrics just suck, and there's no making them good. It's not a style thing (like "I don't like blues so much") it just stinks. As they say, you can't polish a turd. So I had a choice, finish something I hate or start over.

I've started over in a completely different style. You'll see what I mean.

I promised not to go down without a fight. All I can do is hope the judges will listen without prejudice (sorry to borrow a George Michael album title for that, but it does apply).

Had to start late this week, so I'm glad the challenge this week was "2 minutes or under", instead of something like "9 minutes or over".

I got the song itself to fit in the allotted time on my first attempt, but end of the final chord rings out past the 2 minute mark, so I'm going to have to figure out something fancy so it doesn't sound chopped. Studio MAGIC, baby!

People may be a bit confused because in the thread for Round Zero your first post said:
Niveous wrote:Send a link to your completed song to nurein.sidefight@gmail.com
... and in the first post of this thread, you didn't mention anything about e-mailing nurein.sidefight@gmail.com at all. Maybe the first posts should all say "Send your MP3 to nurein.sidefight@gmail.com"? (I'm not criticizing here, just wondering about how to get everyone on the same page about how to submit their songs.) Looking back it looks like the first posts in all but one of the threads for last year's rounds said "Send a copy of your completed song to nurein.sidefight@gmail.com".

Oh Shit. I never realized that. It's a cut and paste. I'll have that fixed for the next round.

I'm in at 1:54. I was going to complain about the strict nature of the challenge, but it made me write the song in ways I would not have thought to otherwise, and I think it's a better song for it.

Oddly enough, the song charts a little differently from what I posted above (I was counting the intro and the last two bars of each chorus at half time, for some reason), but it wound up coming out the exact same length. Partly because I cut some transitions, and partly because I upped the tempo to 115 bpm.

Intro: 4 measures
Verse 1: 7 measures
Chorus: 12 measures
Verse 2: 7 measures
Chorus: 8 measures
Solo: 8 measures
Verse 3: 8 measures

Total: 54 measures @ 115 bpm = 114.7 seconds. Yeehaw!

We were much busier this week than either Rachael and I had anticipated.

It pains me to say this, but we didn't make a song in time. Sure, we have an hour right now, but we would be making a crappy song in an attempt to stay in the competition.

Good luck to the rest of you! Nur Ein!

ROCK!
