Hey Niveous, just so you know... I've got a friend who doesn't participate in Songfight, but he's been trying to follow Nur Ein through the liverjournal page. Planning on updating anytime soon?

Re: Nur Ein IV: Round Five
Working on it. In past years, I would update it from my job. My job has since blocked Photobucket and it makes things a pain in the ass. But I will be updating shortly.

Reminders to those of you in other North American time zones, the song is due Monday night at 10:01pm mountain, 9:01pm pacific, etc. (Please correct me if I am wrong about that.)

Re: Nur Ein IV: Round Five
Whew! We're in by the skin of our teeth. I guess now's a good time to warn you this week's WreckdoM entry discusses relations between two consenting adults in frank, and at times, explicit ways. Probably not a song you want to play around the kids. Hopefully none of our judges are easily offended, or we're screwed.

Re: Nur Ein IV: Round Five
Listened to the songs real quickly this morning and have decided these songs need more listens. To be expected from songs with little to no repetition. But on first listen, still loving Todd McHatton, who seems to have channeled Yes this week. And, though I'm not a fan of your style/genre/whatever, I thought Reist did a great job. Didn't actually get to the Wreckdom tune (damn alphabetical order). Good luck everyone--sounds like another tough round.

Re: Nur Ein IV: Round Five
AR-music is powerful, vox are a little too quiet part of the time. They need more work in the mix for sure. The vox sound good though. Everything else is mixed fairly well. The music has a nice flow to it.
FBF-nice moody intro to queen style explosion.
Great lyrics. I also enjoyed the extreme changes. good use of challenge.
The ending was a bit long.
RD-I like the feel of the song. The first part is definitely more appealing musically, but overall the lyrics and performance are excellent. The mix is of course very good per usual.
SwLGtN-this is a tough spot to be in. this song is very good. It sounds like there are some timing issues in the beginning. The third part is pretty cool. I like the transition to electronic. The song gets better as it goes on. You did a great job, however im not sure its going to be good enough to stay in with this many awesome songs in the mix.
TR-well crafted piece of work here. I really like your voice. I love the musical interludes.
Tmc-the vocal harmonies are really tight. The drums are fun to listen to.
You keep it interesting the whole way through. Well done.
WRKDM-the music is good. Powerful. I really liked your song last round, but I don’t know if this can hang with the rest this round. Although it still is very good.

Re: Nur Ein IV: Round Five
Thanks for the comments Mr. Frisbee.
Here are mine (be part of the solution, I figure)
So this is a fairly solid round, although I feel the challenge had just a little bit of Nur Ein! Kryptonite in it, and I think overall some of the mojo was gone this week. So forgive me if my reviews seem negative, but I found myself wondering what was missing from many tracks that were otherwise quite strong.
One thing I like a lot about this round, is that I feel each of us did a song that sounds like "us" - true to our own aesthetic and I think there are seven somewhat distinct sounds and visions here, and that is cool. Proud to be among this bunch!
I will reserve comment on my own track for other reviewers except to say that I think if this was a seven song EP, I would nominate my track to be last (in order, not ranking ).
_____________________
Andrew Reist - You've really settled into a good sound - are you still getting mastering assistance? Sounds great, the drums in particular. I think your through-composition flows nicely. Nice solo. The lyrics aren't adding that much for me - but it seems the sounds are driving the song. Well done.
Frankie Big Face - Some day I'll ask you about the band name, but you've probably had to explain it a hundred times. The performance and arrangement are quality as always. I admit, I'm not sure what the song is saying/about - the lyrics seem somehow deliberately over-evocative. I like the middle part best - I wish I had an instrument like your voice - and you use it right, it seems. I find the ending over long and it takes a lot away from the song for me.
Swilington - I feel like I am hearing your brainstorming session and not your final draft. There are spots that sound great, and others that sound quite disjointed. In particular, I feel the lyrics are weak here. Some neat moments - but they just aren't tied together well for me musically or lyrically. But you'd be fun to jam with, I think.
Tiny robots - I have had several listens and I am all over the board with this. It flows very smoothly - almost perhaps too smoothly for a through composed piece - but that is a strange contradiction for me to have anyway. nice sounds and performances all around. It is sweet and dark, but I guess you lose me a little - I want more cadences or something , but the ending is nice - this reminds me of a discussion about the "Feminine chord progression" in the FAWM boards. I would love to hear Erin's vocals go to more levels here the way the backing tracks do. Good song, though.
Todd McHatton - I love the kinds of sounds you make, although I do wish you would strip down a bit more sometimes. Lots of nice touches here, but like the Reist track I feel like the sound is driving the song - so that I end up not entirely sure what it's about. Excellently done, but not sure what was done, if ya know what I mean - fun to listen to, though.
WreckdoM - remember what I said a few weeks back about you guys growing up? I take it back. not a fan of the content or delivery. There is no "tune" and it seems to me to be somewhat interchangeable with many other tracks in that way. but some cool grooves are here. The screaming in the middle was buggin me. and yet - I feel you were true to your muse and went for a true WreckdoM song. So kudos for that. I am amused by the heading "Cuddling" before the last section.
and in 15 hours we will know what the judges think [knock wood]
