Nur Ein VII Round Three "Unexpected Guest"

Post by Niveous »

16 bands remain. Only one can win.

Round Three:

Title: Unexpected Guest
Challenge: Collab with a past Nur Ein contestant*
*not a current judge
Songs are Due on: Monday, May 14th @ 12:01 AM EDT
Send your MP3 to nurein.sidefight@gmail.com

4 bands will be eliminated.

bgm as winner of Round 2 has immunity in Round 3.
Niveous wrote:Creativity. Creativity. Creativity.

I understand that this is quite a hard challenge for some and hard for all since this is Mother's Day weekend.
But... it can be done.

For this round, we will allow team ups with current Nur Ein contestants (as long as they were a part of a previous Nur Ein)
But... each competitor needs to have an entry of their own

If that's too difficult, you can use a sample of a previous Nur Ein contestant
But... you still need to collab with someone else (i,e- a collaboration + a sample)

Hey, if Snoop can perform with Tupac at Coachella, you can figure something out.
Go forth and Nur Ein

Aside from the people who've been eliminated from Nur Ein 7 already, there's a pretty limited pool of people who are
1.) Past Nur Ein contestants,
2.) Not in the competition currently,
3.) Not judges,
and
4.) Available for contact.

Is there a chance we could get available collaboration partners to chime in and express their availability in this thread?

EDIT: Also, Niveous, you need to sticky this thread.

This is going to be very difficult for me as I don't really know people around here and I have to finish mine by Thursday night (out of town all weekend.) Any suggestions on someone I can get as a guest?

(if anyone is interested in being my guest, please let me know ASAP! you can do anything you want on my track. ...)

I think Chocolate Chip has a good point.

There seems to be 60 people/bands to choose from (not counting this year). There are some names I don't remember - so they maybe current judges or competitors under different names:

#
15-16 Puzzle
Abbott & Hines
Abominominominous
Billy's Little Trip
Bjam
Bram Tant
Brodeur & Gliniecki
Bryan Kandel
Calfborg
Chopped Liver Meat God
Cock
Nigel/Cynthia Size
Denyer
Deshead
Embers of Autumn
Emperor Gum
Glen Raphael
Glenn Case/Glen and Rachael
Heuristics Inc
Hoblit
Hoglen & Wages
Howl Down the Chiminey
Ice 9
Jim Tyrell
JBB
John Kloberdanz
Jolly Roger/Reist/Therman
Kamakura
Ken
King Arthur
Leaf
Luke Henley
Marcus Kellis
MC EricB
Mico Suadad
Milo Dunderville
Minty Handy
Mr Lostman
Naked Philosophy
Nouveau pavre
Pop Machine
Puce
Remiss
Same Day Positive
Sausage Boy
Sheail
Signboy/Real Sign
Starfinger
Steve Durand
Student Band
Stueym
Sven
Swilington
Test Week Hiatus
The Bewells
Bovine Recyclery
Thornberry
Todd McHatton
Who Fly

Very few of these are still arouind regularly. Personally - there are quite a lot of these people that I can contact through Facebook etc. so it probably wont be an issue for me. But I can see that for more recent or less regular players - it could be a bit of an ask (as Choco has indicated).

I believe previous Round 3 Challenges were Bring a Guest, or Duet with a Guest etc... Something less prescriptive like this may level the playing field.

I cannot guarantee that any of the following will be available, but here's the comprehensive list of past Nur Ein competitors. I've crossed out the names of anyone disqualified from collaborating due to being a current judge or current competitor. I've taken the liberty of bolding names of people I think are likely to answer if you reach out to them. I'm a little worried about how few bold names there are.

Leaf 62 (last seen in 2009, "Sold Out")**
Heuristics, Inc.
Luke Henley (Last seen: 2011, Nur Ein VI)
Remiss (Last seen: 2006, Nur Ein I)

15-16 Puzzle (Last seen: 2009, "The Proposal")
Deshead (Last seen: 2006, Nur Ein I)

Bjam (Last seen: 2006, Song Fight Live/"All Tan")

Sausage Boy (Last seen: 2008, Nur Ein III)
Jim Tyrell (Last seen: 2011, Song Fight Live)
Jolly Roger/Reist/Whatever his name is these days (Last seen: hard to tell, but I think it was 2010, "Keep All Your Promises")**

Does someone count as a past contestant if they only entered round 0 and they didn't make the cut to round 1?

Hey Niv, given the limited pool of possible guests, is it permissible if someone guests on multiple entries in a round?

The rules don't say you can't have a current competitor as a guest. Its like Battle Royale where they have to help each other out only to inevitably turn on each other.

Having said that Lord Of Oats, I want you.

Interesting point...

I'm trying to get as much of my song done tonight as I can since I have some free time and have to get it done by Thursday night --- hopefully I can figure out the whole guest thing by tomorrow so I have time to get it done.

You don't think "past competitor" is meant to imply "not current competitior?"

I imagine you are not very worried about this one, Ross, as one of the viable candidates is your brother. ;)

Hey wait, don't I collaborate with a past contestant (Erin) every time? :P

Anyway, fun fun fun. Good luck to all. Nur Ein!!!

You can be a past competitor and a current competitor. I don't know, I think it's a bit fuzzy, another ambiguity for the pot.

I suppose I could collaborate with myself, I am a past competitor as well as a current one :)

Indeed, if you do it in an interesting way.

There is a slight clue in the title to another way round the quandry. I am not speaking for the other judges here, but if a full-on collab proves impossible, then this judge will also accept songs based around / using samples from previous nur ein-er entries (excluding judges). Not a preferred option, but I will consider it "canon". That way your collaborator finds him/herself an unexpected guest at your pop party.
