Wait, there's just enough judges to almost work for this, isn't there?

I was surprised nobody recorded themselves fumbling through a tongue twister. Everyone nailed their tongue twisters. Even the song about a stammering gentleman had perfect execution on his tongue twister. Are we all afraid of that group that gave the Who hell for the stammering in "My Generation"?

Still loving all the songs!

Really getting into the leads on the Ross Durand tune!

I always hated that stammer in My Generation even as I understood how it made the song so much more unique, memorable and, dare I say, fun. My guy lost his stammer when his woman left so it didn't make much sense to have him stuttering except for maybe when he calls her. And since I butchered that phrasing and the pre-chorus that follows, maybe I'll go back and try it out.

P.S. The first two or three times I recorded my vocal, I fumbled over the line "Bitter crumbs from brittle crusts" and laughed out loud at myself. I considered leaving it in but it wasn't a good vocal take and I didn't want to screw it up on purpose. That just seemed disingenuous and lame.

1. I dislike both My Generation and Bbbbbad to the Bbbbbbbone.
(a bbbbbbbit.)
2. I had real trouble with toy boats. It's REALLY hard to do that, and REALLY hard to sing high. Which is why I allowed myself to say "DJ......" during the fade out. I wanted it to be FUN!
3. I am eating sushi and reading our sushi chef's blog while we wait. I'm also finishing more comprehensive reviews. But in here they are playing things like the theme from 'Footloose' and stuff from top gun as well

@Glennny - i have to admit, I kinda feel like I am used to getting ripped by you in reviews, so your compliments this ein have meant a lot. To elicit tears or be told (i paraphrase), "I've been listening to a lot of Wilco, and this is good." Never mind having great guitarist like you compliment my playing.

Ok, Ross, you're no Dicky Betts. And Glennny, you're no Gary Green.

Not trying to be Dicky Betts...

Edit:snark removed

Just trying to write and present a good song - slide seemed like an appropriate choice - I hope it helped deliver the song.

as promised...
DEN PART THWEE.
the more to say I was gonna say:
ADD-
this to me was a little bit hectic and I think I mentioned relentless...before? But I was also talking about your production which has been enviable this whole NurEin so you pull off any mood. I mentioned before that I like your vocal; it's because it's really endearingly strange and has these neat spots where it hits the nice place on the word and dips up or down right. Your bass sproings out nice and bouncy and the stuck-in tongue twister doesn't detract from your song but you don't sink the challenge like some of the others. Doesn't matter, I think this is so hooky and a REALLY strong performance!
ps. OOO! I forgot to put that I really liked your chord progression itself. It took the pressure off the see-saw feeling off the song's overall movement a bit, if that makes sense? My roommate came in whilst I was writing and fully distracted me!!!

ROSS:
This is really fluid and well done and neatly packaged. I can't help but be a little more emotionally drawn to some of the odder choices (in this Nur Ein, by which I mean unconventional, perhaps) you've made that have been maybe less comfortable for you - even if it was just because of hoarsey vocals. This has almost too much polish. I know what a frustrating thing that is to hear though. I thought your handle on the challenge was great (Mississippi!!) and that you had good plot that went so well with you characteristically. If I have genre bias it's pro this a bit. You can write these in your sleep, I always say, but there was special energy around your Nur Eins this year, especially Elizabeth and I think this one as well. :)

FRANKIE:
You get away with a risky decision and it made me a little sad in the same way you're sad when you show up in a tricked out party dress. Everyone else showed up in one too, but you glided into the room in a simple classic number with a little strand of pearls and were not sparkled or glittered and all eyes were riveted. This is what I meant when I gave a flippant comment about showmanship, it's the ability to convey charisma through a recording because you are a storyteller (and this is such a stunner of a tale with a Most Delicious Chorus) and a weaver of words. I guess that's really all I have to say. Kind of funny-sad, and that sunny-Sunday afternoon feeling is hard to get in a song!

WSA:
I like you guys more and more in all your confusing incarnations of personnel and best in this form because you are so intricate. It makes me want to do research on the compare and contrasts of your acts because you are all so quirky as individuals and you have so many things going. There seems to be a real talent pool going in your neck of the woods. this song had a special shimmer, aurally. I wasn't crazed about the lyrics but I found myself shaking my head in understanding as hookyness lifted my soul and joyful thesis statement came around and had me zipping around in a cute car in the sonic sunshine. Each sound just seemed really well crafted. Am iffy on the singing - I liked how you handled vocals better in previous rounds.
Also, the way you handled the Pink Floyd reference was tasteful and I'm glad someone did it. It made the round comfy. I think it's nice we got some comfy up in here ;) x

This could be anybody's game. I have my suspicions and my beliefs, but it was a heady show.

ME:
I have an interesting story of before, after, and during for this song. For now, the relevant bits are:
-I did what I wanted to the best of my current ability to convey the text and the wormy little bass line that wanted to go with it. They're like a little messy sonic burrito, together.
-I like what happened, for the most part. There are four bits I'd change now in the drum track and I'd fix the preset I used on the mastering plug in.
-this song is about feeling frustrated and it made me feel better to give it a lurchy feeling to emphasize words and have percussion around it that pointed to stuff and was shifty. I wanted a messy "THACK" on the two and four and loud jarring noises to come in on fills right before downbeats, but in time. And without an overemphasis of ghost beats in the kick, which normally are fine but not popping out in a plug in. Who knows these things?
-I wanted to cover all bases, so I also made sure I had a tongue twister that was common use but allowable. Hence "toy boats." so I stuck it in the plot. In one of the high tracks there is a hint of "twoi bwats" (much fainter!) but I blended it and kept the take.

Sorry for delays in results for this round, kiddies. We have sickness in the judges' suite at the top of Nur Ein Towers.

The results are all in, but as one of the ill is our regular bean-counter, it falls to me to do the math. Which I am terrible at. So as soon as another judge who is among the living checks my calculations, results will be posted.

No worries, you rock. I was injecting antagonistic qualifiers that have no basis in reality. Your playing this week is awesome. But the truth is you're Ross Durand.

I'm happy to check math.
You can give me results for anonymous bands ABCDE.

Here are some sanity checks:

the sum of everyone's score will be 75
25 is the highest someone could score, 5 is the lowest.
It is possible for a 5 way tie at 15 points per artist.
If there's a 5 the next lowest is no lower than 10
If there's a 6 the next lowest is no lower than 9
If there's a 7 the next lowest is no lower than 8
If there's a 25 the next highest is no higher than 20
If there's a 24 the next highest is no higher 21
If there's a 23 the next highest is no higher than 22

thanks!

Following vote checking, results are posted, kiddies. For those of you still in, the title will be posted some time this afternoon. Just waiting on approval of the title from a judge or two more.

PS Glennnnnnnny, it's 1,2,3,4,5 scoring now. Like it was 1-8 in the last round.

Congrats Ross and Frankie!

J$ - i know the scoring : 21 + 21 + 13 + 12 + 8 = 75
there are 5 judges times 1,2,3,4,5

Anyway looks like it's West Coast vs East Coast!

Awesome Nur Ein!
Excellent titles and challenges!

It's been a pleasure.

Ah yes, misunderstood - thought you were saying the maximum score not the total should be 75.

Sorry to see you go. I know I wasn't alone amongst the judges in thinking this was a pretty fantastic round, all round.
