Sadly. That is a pair up we will never see. Steve would have worked well with Peter Gabriel. He certainly knew how to shock a monkey.
Which ironically would have also fit in the 'Trouser Snake' category...

I got in. Mine's very strange, with my super good friend telling a story and me making music for it. It fits as mom "collaboration." :)
It's dodgy but I think I might love it a bit. And it's about ..dreams. I'm sure to get eliminated but I'm liking the "album" my songs are giving me so far. And my friend Michi (who helped me) has been watching me do all these Nur Eins I've been in.

Thatta boy. Give the guy with immunity a bunch of crap for doing his best to submit a song he didn't have to make at all. Such an endearing quality in a judge. You can quote me on that if you like.

Good point. We should all thank MG for his effort is week. We should feel privileged that he deigned to put together some Appleloops together for us for our entertainment. How dare a judge exhibit such blatant judgmental behaviour.

BTW - Merisan - I really wanted to like yours more, it sounds great... - but I couldn't, because I am too familiar with this song:

I am sure it was unknowing or accidental ...I know none of us want to be too derivative...but it sounds really close to me. Sorry

Erin does have a better voice than Tom if that is any consolation.

I had the feeling the movie soundbites might drop our song a bit. But I also thought 'Fuck it. I love Pliskin, and he needs a theme song.'

So if this is it, it's been a fun ride. And I'm excited we made it to Round 3 - best showing we've done yet, and we got 4 new songs out of it!

I haven't listened to it, either. My query (which was tongue-in-cheek) was totally unrelated to the song itself, but rather a direct response to his statement about the composition of his submission. If that is your definition of "a bunch of crap", then I don't expect you and I are likely to see eye-to-eye on a lot of things.

Reviews from the ghost of sky pup (roughly in order of preference):

Carlo Bruno Jr. - This rocks! This song is awesome. Great stuff, mate. Also, this came closest to meeting my request for epic Soundgarden-like shit with wailing mums. Not that Soundgardeny but definitely Epic! Fuck yeah!

Paco Del Stinko - Yes please. Love the guitar riff. I bet it was fun to make a song like this with your mum. I'll always love an awesome rocker.

Merisan - This is excellent. It's a really sexy, jazzy tune. I think this is done incredibly well - it is a perfect example of this type of song. Nice.

Balance Lost - This is beautiful. I love your singing / vocal melodies. Thank you for a lovely song. It is kind of catchy too. I like this.

Cavedwellers - You guys have had the best sounding production each round in my opinion. This song sounds amazing. I like the lyrics / singing, especially the chorus. The instrumental break is really cool. Well done.

Frankie Big Face - I get a cool Flaming Lips vibe from this song, which is a good thing. It's very ethereal and happy feeling. Nice. It gets kind of trance-like towards the end. Pretty cool. What is a diving bell?

WreckdoM - I'm a huge fan of the WreckdoM sound. You guys are awesome. The lyrics are fairly forgettable but I love the funky, fun sound. Especially when the horns come in.

Boffo Yux Dudes - I have no idea who Snake Pliskin is but this awesome. And really well done. The background music sounds great and the sound bytes work in well with it. Fun stuff.

Governing Dynamics - I like this song. My favourite part is when it gets a bit heavier towards the end. Guitar is awesome and I love the intensity in the singing. I don't know if the lyrics really stand out for me.

The Tydon Docks - This sounds like a song to play at Sunday School. I guess Sunday School songs don't really say "All hail the snake" though. I liked this. It's a bit of a change from the other Tydon Docks songs. Smooth.

Manhattan Glutton - I like the singing in this. This is a nice listen but for me it doesn't really stand out from the crowd. Your last one really did (I've showed friends) so this is probably okay when you have immunity.

Inflatable Vegetables - I like the groovy, heavy riff. You are the only one that rebelled against the snake. "I don't want to give any honour to the snake" stands out when everyone else is embracing the snake. Ballsy. I like that. The singing isn't that good. I feel like the song is pretty cool - if you practised the vocals some more and re-released it, it could be awesome.

DJ Ranger Den - This is an interesting mix of sounds. It keeps my attention the whole way through. I like it.

Chokehold Princess - Nice acapella song. This sounds good and it's fun.

Ross Durand - I'm not an American and this American-pride song didn't really appeal to me lyrically. I didn't know the liberty snake was a thing? Is that a thing? Most of the lyrics kind of seemed a bit cliched to me. Maybe I should just put this down to personal taste. I really liked your round one entry.

Tubba Gutz - No song? Weak.

Paco! I think you got this one in the bag. Rock bro! F**kin' love it!

djrd, I love your composing mind. You always know just what to do/say/play to carry your compositions through from start to finish. Great arrangement!

I was just asked "why is there silence at the end of your track?" You may choose the answer you like best:
a. it's part of my master plan to be full of crap
b. i am trying to torture j$ purposely with another longass song
c. I sent it at butt'o'clock in the morning and didn't get to finish the process properly like I wanted but thought "I shall send it anyway!! NUR EIN!"
d. it is all very meaningful and Important. The silence is the silence of our souls. You, indeed, and the judges, must listen through and contemplate All Of It, as though you were whales. Or some other contemplative creature. :)
e. all of the above (except perhaps a. maybe. perhaps...)
:)

Well, like I said, I didn't quite FINISH...and this wasn't the right Time to be all Weird Original and Thought-Provoking; I think it's a little late in the game with this really good set of folks in here. But I am trying to do things I like. I just need to get them there sooner!!!

Well, I guess I wasn't really thinking of it as an american pride song, more of a people going off to fight song with a parental angle. It worked with the US because we had this cool snake flag - you can see a picture of it in the lyric thread.

I'm glad you're not a judge this round :-)

Fingers crossed.

At Ray-
"Jockey Full of Bourbon" is a fabulous song, and any comparison to Tom Waits is a welcome compliment, So Thanks!
I can see how the phrasing and structure are comparable, but the genre (jazzy-speak-easy/tango-ish) itself is pretty formulaic. It seems to me that any actual similarities are more influenced by the style of the genre.
Merisan has done a few songs in this style over the years...please see : First Blood, The Best Place In Town Is Also The Darkest and also, with Tinski Robotnik- Rhymes with Lucia.
Tom Waits is certainly a master at this genre, but hopefully there is room for all of us to give it a try. 8-)
Eeep-opp-orp-opp-opp...that means I love you!

Paco FTW with the ultimate judge pandering collab. :P Well played sir.

This reminds me of the round where we all thought we'd been very clever with our collaborations until we saw that Puce had gotten Brad Sucks for his song. GAME OVER

Quick iPhone reviews, nice fight everyone!

Balance Lost- is that Mrs Glover? She did fantastic! I love this song! It makes me miss my mom. Say Hi for me. This is wonderful!

Boffo Yux- where's Chris? The music is not as strong as your previous entries. I'm worried for you.

Carlo- yes! This rocks! I love it! Drums and attitude! I can't understand a word except underpants. Awesome!

Cavedwellers- I love our song. It was wonderful to work with Lisa. I miss my mom! I miss Lee and Lisa's mom! I hope you all like it.

Chokehold- I'm very happy you got in, and I think you'll survive. This is funny! I think the vocal melody is a little too similar to see you in hell, especially with the same orchestration. I enjoyed it! Mrs Krieger did fantastic!

DJ- this really challenges the listener. No piano? None of your vocals? I don't get it. I'm worried for you. Oh there you are singing in the room next door. I'll keep listening, but I'm not sure about this one.

Frankie- this is the 1st time the fade out works for me. This my favorite entry you've done this nur ein. Great chord pattern. Great atmosphere. Evokes portishead trip hop stuff. Cool!

Governing dynamics- this is a little sluggish. Not a bad song. Just not grabbing me like some of your others.

IV- not bad, but a little sloppy. I'm worried for you given the competition.

Man Glut- thanks for submitting. Pretty good song. I hope to hear your proper treatment of it when you have time after nur ein.

Merisan- impeccable! Flawless! Timeless! Great song! No criticisms. Just wildly impressed ( as usual).

Paco- my first thought when I saw the title was Heather. My second thought was Paco should use her, I swear. It's all so perfect! It rocks! Heather kills it! Mr Heather has some tasty licks in there too! Yeah this is probably the favorite. Kick ass!

Ross- you might be on the edge of cliche, but I'm not cool enough not to have an emotional response to this. I think this is my favorite of the fight! Love the horns, love the dynamics! Mrs Durand did a perfect job! Well done!

Tyson Docks- I couldn't care less about your rap. You do it well. It doesn't matter. The backing track is so groovy that I enjoy listening to this repeatedly. Love the backing vocals. Bass line rules! Cool song!

Wreckdom- this is the side of wreckdom I'm not as into. It's good, it's art. It's art. You should be safe. It's interesting and entertaining.

Glenny.
I'm not worried. :) if I go that's okay. I could have used another 1.5 hours or so. Instrumentation is odd and tempo start-stoppish because it fits character and narrators constant Interruptions into his consciousness. I hate to explain, judges should have an opportunity to say "what the hell are you doing?!?" with no clarifying explanations. I had one for round zero too, it also had gaming things in it but had to do with war, violence. i couldn't resist the urge for more soundscape.

I was going for "floaty pre-pubescent boy-thoughts mixing with mom and that gaming consciousness while he discovers this new Stuff and is still obsessed with superhero things. oh. wait. Toast! and then..uh...next dream...what th..."
that sort of thing. I laughed while I was making it and I'll probably keep this one and make sure it's mixed more slowly, at some point; for clarity. Probably not the kind of clarity we're thinking when Proper Song is thought of, certainly no pianos. But time for more deliberateness...yes. :)
