Oh, cool! When this Ein is over, you and Ben Krieger (aka Krautkitten) ought to do a double-Irish Bouzouki collaboration! Dueling Bouzoukis!

Thanks for the reviews. I enjoyed the challenge this year. Sorry I haven't had time to participate in Listening Party or post more in forums.

re: Ukulele. I find that when I play nylon string ukes, if my fingers don't hit the strings dead on, they tend to bend the strings sharp, especially on the thinner strings.

Were I to write the rules for a tie breaker. I would say that 3 of the 5 judges preferred Balance Lost to Cavedwellers. Therefore Balance Lost would win the tie-breaker according to a rule that doesn't exist (yet). The alphabet just rubs it in.
Great song by the way!

Cheers old bean, and the same to you guys.
I thought the judges were particularly kind to me this time and it was a bit forgettable in terms of lyrical melody. Definitely need to raise my game if I'm gonna compete in round 4 methinks!

There are no monkeys. That wouldn't make any sense.
There is, specifically - one gorilla, two chimpanzees and a female orang-utan. I couldn't find a sound bite of a bonobo, which is why I used the second chimpanzee (I think they sound pretty much the same anyway). I hope the judges don't mark me down for that.

Yes - the song was specifically referring to the Familiy Hominidae (the four genus to the right of the picture), and not the broader Order of primates as shown in the whole picture. So - no monkeys. Just Great Apes.

Well, I guess my point was that in a cladistic view there is no "family" so to speak and everything descended from the node where the Monkeys branch off can also be considered a subset of the monkey clade ;-)

It may not be a "family" tree but cladogram branches are "sister taxa", so that still close enough for rock and roll. :P

The song lyrics make explicit references to "taxonomic classification" and "family hominidae."

I seriously don't get what the argument against using them should be.

Are you referring to Old World Monkeys or New World Monkeys? Or are you just lumping them together willy-nilly too?

I don't think anyone has questioned my use of the challenge.

I just took offence at the reference to "monkey noises".
It took a lot of googling for me to find adequate monkey-free sound bites of Great Apes.

I'm not questioning anyone's use of the challenge. I am just bantering around about Ray's offense about the "monkey noises" when there is one view of classification that puts apes as a subset of a larger group called monkeys. So technically, under one view, ape noises would also be monkey noises, but not all monkey noises would be ape noises. Just poking, that's all.

Peace and love

I am getting worried that you are now going whip out your Old Testament and ask us:

Well - if humans supposedly "evolved" from monkeys...HOW COME THERE ARE STILL MONKEYS!?!?!?!

So I had a chance to play some songs for my dad, including this one, and he immediately thought it was another song that his teacher colleague used to sing. Conceivably, I could have heard it as a kid. I'm trying to figure out what that song could have been...it's kind of ruined my tune for me. Does this remind anyone of another song?

didn't make me think of anything. maybe the teacher was a time traveler who had heard your song in the future.
