...they just feel a bit too straight and filk-y.
Uh-oh, this is the second time in the last few fights that someone has used the word filk in reference to my lyrics. I'm going to have to be careful--three strikes and you're out.

I was trying to make a more charming (and maybe more awkwardly realistic) version of one of the standard fantasy tropes, but I'm not sure to what extent I was mildly subversive, as opposed to simply straightforward.

LICHEN THROAT:
I like this very much. I like the guitar. I like the structure. I like the lyrics. I like the cello. The vocals are slightly dodgy - but I assume you know that. As another gravelly throated old bastard I am wondering if maybe I could nail it better. Happy to have a crack if you want to send me the backing music. (Sorry if that sounds a bit wanky, not trying to be offensive - just saying I like the song and it might sound cool with better control on vocals
I would be very happy to do this! I am aware that my vocal technique leaves a lot to be desired, so there is no danger of my ego getting bruised. Let me know what format you want the files in and tell me the best way to transfer them to you, and I will send them after I get home from work.

OK. As a man to my word I had a crack at this:
https://soundcloud.com/caravanray/liche ... te-monster

and as I said to LT earlier - this is not an exercise in "I can sound better" (I dont think?) - I just hear songs in my head different and I want to record my versions (OK - it is probably a bit wanky)

Anyway - this version of mine just has ideas that i think vocals could do by people who could sing good (again no meaning me - I am just the ideas man). I would love to hear guitarists turn this into a Muse stye guitar fest.

C'mon Sam? Paco? Is Carlo Bruni out there - he could totally rock this ..

Thanks for posting this, and for making the effort to record it. I've been continuing to enjoy it since you sent it to me privately a couple of weeks ago.
