Just wondering about your recording process-- do you ever track guitar and vocals simultaneously? Are you recording to a click or the actual drum track? I'm not really the right person to give anyone advice on how to improve performances or recordings, but just speaking from personal experience as a person with a not particularly amazing sense of rhythm: I find I have a LOT of trouble recording to a click as opposed to actual drums or fake drums. I'm also often able to stay in sync better, timing-wise, if I track the rhythm instrument and vocals simultaneously, although the recording quality and/or performance quality may suffer instead in that case due to the multitasking. And standing up as opposed to sitting down can also be helpful for me sometimes if I'm having timing issues.
To answer your questions, I've never tried to record the vocal and guitar simultaneously. I'm very inexperienced with the guitar (less than 10 hours of lifetime practice), so I often can't even reposition my left hand without having to halt the recording process. There's no way I could play and sing at the same time, at this point. I always record sitting down; maybe I'll try standing up next time. Thanks for the suggestions!

Dang. 10 hours is Nothing! I may have spent 10 hours playing in the last week or so--I know I spent 4 hrs straight yesterday at the very least... I'm very impressed at your level of playing at this point if that's the case (and feel slightly bad that I'm not better at it myself by now...) I liked hearing the real guitar recently and hope you keep submitting tracks with it, looking forward to hearing it get better by leaps and bounds as you get more practice under your belt.

Thank you for the kind words, owl, but except for last week, most of the songs have been played one note at a time, and then edited together later, so the only thing that might be impressive is the amount of time I had to spend on the editing process. Your songs always sound great; I would be thrilled to ever approach your level of musicianship.

Congratulations to Third Cat. Sorry I didn't manage to submit reviews for this one.

Since my entry raised a lot of conversation on the podcast about dry vocals... I had to record my vocals on a very cheap dynamic microphone because my audio interface wasn't delivering phantom power properly. So there wasn't a ton I could do to make them sound good. But things are working again (for now) so hopefully y'all like my vocal recording better this time (if not my vocal performance...).

And uh, having some trouble logging in/posting to the forum, I guess this is a different login name. I'm not sure exactly what happened there.
